The Barth Data Tag - 1963 ~ 1998 |
Click Images For Larger View |
Below are images of the Barth Data Tag plate found in, on and around our coaches and trailers. It could give weight ratings, tire sizes and pressures, chassis manufacturer, coach length, floorplan, dates of manufacture and build numbers. We are collecting this information to determine how many Barths are still left and try to get a better understanding of production figures and chassis makes for each year. Each image opens up to a larger view of the tag. If you have this info on your coach, please forward a picture of the tag and coach to bill_ny@barthmobile.com |

Barth Trailers & Pickup Camper Insert 1963 ~ 1968 |
Frame Stamp - 1964 Trailer |
1966 Trailer |
1967 Pickup Camper Insert |
|
The trailers were stamped in the tongue area "A" frame and most had a tag located on the outside around the entrance way. (year/month/sequential build/length)
1963 - 1968 (Barth Trailer Company) trailers followed a sequence of the year being represented by a letter with a number for the month. The camper inserts used the digits of the year. So, for a 1967 trailer built in May it would be represented by an "E5". The "E", being the 5th letter in the alphabet, stood for the 5th year Barth was in biz. Letters designations ranged from "A to F". The Camper Insert would use "67" at the end of the number sequence with nothing identifying the month of production. |

1968 - early 1971 the tag sequence was a little confusing as it used a 3 digit code from Jan to Sep and a 4 digit code for Oct - Dec. to designate the year and month. No effort was placed on separating the digits. Several different types of tags were used.
Trailers no longer used a letter to denote the year. (year/month/sequential build/length)
1969 - 1972'ish the length was not included in the data tag number for the MotorHomes, just the trailers noted the length. (year/month/sequential build)
MH stood for Motor Home - MC was for a Motor Coach - Same meaning.
1972'ish - mid/late 73 the length was included in the data tag number for the RV. (year/month/sequential build/length)
late 73 the Floor Plan was included in the data tag number. (year/month/sequential build/length/floorplan) |

1978-1980 RV |
|
1974 to 1980 the floorplan was included in the data tag number. (year/month/sequential build/length/floorplan)
1974 - 1977 The Class C Barths were offered in 2 lengths. A 19 earlier on and then a 22. No floorplan designation is denoted in the data tag. The "M" stood for mini in the data tag. (year/month/sequential build/M/length)
1978 - 1980 the floorplan was now designated with the letters FP before the designation. (year/month/sequential build/length/floorplan)
1963 to 1980 it was not uncommon to find the data tag number being used as the Vin#. In 1981 the Federal Government mandated a uniform 17 digit code that used the vehicle chassis as the registration info. MCC followed that rule starting in 1982. |

1981 Barth did not use a year/month combo at the start of their tag numbers. They started out with the sequence number for the Euro that followed all of the other Barths before them. (sequential build/length/floorplan)
1981 The "MCC by Barth" was born from the ashes of FMC. This fiberglass bodied coach was built in California and the interior was finished in Indiana. Vin# was just 11 digits long.
1981 The "MCC by Barth" started out at 0001. Like the Euro, the month and year was not included. (new sequential build/length/floorplan)
1982 The Euro & commercial vehicles went back to using the year/month/sequential build/length/floorplan
1982 The "S" designation, for Spec. Vehicles, was dropped from the begining of the tag number.
1982 - late 82 The "MCC by Barth" was using year/month/new sequential build/model type/length/floorplan and the Vin# was now 17 digits long. |

|
late 87 - late 90 with the introduction of other chassis in the Regal line, Barth started to include the chassis manufacture in the tag. (year/month/sequential build/length/chassis manufacturer/floorplan)
The Regal line started to include a few gasoline powered "Pushers" to the mix. (year/month/sequential build/length/rear engine/fuel type/chassis manufacturer/floorplan)
late 90 with the introduction of the Breakaway, Barth kept the sequential build numbers of the other coaches built before it. Few Regals were built during this time frame. (year/month/sequential build/length/front engine/chassis manufacturer/floorplan)

Barth Breakaway, Breakaway XL, Sovereign & Monarch 1990 ~ 1994 |
1991-1994 Breakaway |
1993-1994 Sovereign |
1994 Monarch |
|
Late 90 Breakaway introduced as a 91 model. The Breakaway model used the sequential numbers of the Barths that preceded before them from the Regal Line. The tag number changed slightly and the model designation was inserted into the mix (year/month/sequential build/BREAKAWAY/chassis/floorplan)
1993 Monarch & Sovereign also kept the sequential build numbers of the Breakaways. The weight ratings, engine HP were more akin to a Regency powered coach.
Oct 92 - Dec 94 During this 26 month time frame 5 Regency sequenced tagged coaches were produced. None were produced between Oct 93 - Nov 94. There are two owners that have paperwork indicating that their coaches are Regency models but the tag numbers fall within the Breakaway, Monarch & Sovereign lines. Those coaches have XI in their Data Tag sequence.
