Are there issues with the title not being changed over to be able to get coverage for the trip? Makes no sense to change title until I get it to Minnesnowta.

My insurance company has never asked if I even own the vehicle. VIN is about all they need these days, at least for insurance.

The bigger question is are you legal? Every state is different I think, but in NH I needed to register within 10 days of switching the plates.

You would have to check with your insurance company, but usually they go by the date of the Bill of Sale. Most states give you 30 days to transfer title. I am fairly certain that Coach Net,Good Sam's etc.are the same way. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask them though. There may be a day or so of lag time.

Insurance companies use the date of acquisition (sale). You do need to call your agent, because many companies won't put a motorhome on a personal auto policy. Otherwise it would be covered automatically for the highest and best coverage on any other insured vehicle - for 30 days.

You may want to ask your insurance agent about replacement value insurance also, otherwise they may go by book value. I have my Regal insured for about twice the book value.

Lynn (My Wife) talked with our agent the other day. They would add it to my personal Auto but it seemed a bit steep for a year. I am planning to check some like progressive and others. I didn't have her ask for all the particulars of what we needed to provide them to insure. Found it hard to believe they only listed Breakaway Xl's for our year. I have no problem finding it in the NADA book. I guess I may have to waste my time next week and go have a talk. Keep the suggestions coming.

This may be apples and oranges. I get my insurance through AARP (Hartford) I am 59. The premium for my Barth with $25,000 replacement value and a $250 deductible (no glass coverage) run $30 a month. I do have my home and a couple other vehicles with the same company so there is a discount.

Hey Gerald no info is bad, more info is great. Why no Glass? I have all my vehicles and my house with State Farm. Been with them 100 years okay maybe 30. Roughly 50 a month for coverage $1000 deductible and looks like $1000 deductible on glass. Hard reading the chicken scratch abbreviations not sure of the rest.

Check out National Interstate for insurance. I got mine thru Explorer RV Insurance Agency in Ohio (1-888-774-6778). They have been great to deal with and I pay 432.00 per year for full coverage (including glass) on Barth II. The new owner of Barth I now has it insured thru them also. All you need is the VIN number and they will insure your Barth for an agreed value.

I'd bet what you have is "stated amount", not "replacement cost". Stated amount pays for a total the lesser of the stated amount or actual cash value.

Rusty, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. You have forced me to do what I least like to do... read my entire policy!!! When I intially bought the Barth, I told the agent that I wanted a $25,000 replacment (stated) value put on the Regal... he answered with "fine no problem" all done over the phone of course.

When I got the policy I looked and sure enough under the provisions it stated that the ACV would not exceed $25,000... OK good enough ..threw in the file and called it good. Your explanation got me to dig a little deeper... found that it stated exactly what you did.

Called The Hartford... they confirmed it. Found out further that in South Dakota (and several other states) that premiums are based on what the coach was new (in my case 147,000.. most expensive Regal Barth built..naturally!!) But the claim could only be for book + whatever the adjuster wanted to give you, which in my case was not to exceed $25,000!! They also told me that they had made a mistake and that they had been basing my premium on a new price of $25,000 so with the adjustment and uping my deductible from 250 to $500 my new premium would be $20 a month higher!

I asked them why would anyone want to pay a premium on $147,000 new value knowing that they would only get $25,000 back...if the adjuster was so inclined. All in all they said that the first agent had given me some inaccurate information.

I thought that I had read in one of the posts that this type of replacement insurance was available..that's why I asked the first phone agent for it the first time. Am I completely off on this..By the way she did say that they did offer a "stated value", insurance which at this point, I am not even sure what that means..but not in South Dakota. Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks again Rusty!!
