Diesel pushers are quieter, and the engine is easier to work on. My brakes are hydraulic (Hydroboost). Long grades aren't a problem because I downshift before starting. On the long 7% on I-77 from Fancy Gap (7 miles), the last time I ran, I didn't touch the service brakes.

I will open mouth and insert foot.

We were asking $25K for our 30' breakaway. It has a 5 speed Allison 200 and just under 300HP. We get just under 11mpg overall.

So if you sell for $10K that gives you $15K to spend on gas over the next x number of years.

Today on the Commodities exchange regular gas is $3.38 and fuel oil is $3.23 or 15 cents a gallon cheaper. Don't know where the difference in price at the retail pump comes from, but lots of states have a higher road tax on diesel.

Anyway the $ say keep your gasser. If you are like me, give me an oil burner.

If you got Gary's coach, you really wouldn't need to do too much more.

sometime this year, I will probably make an effort to sell my (formerly Yale's) 30' Breakaway for $20K. But, it is not for someone wanting high hp and 5-6 speed trans.
Never the less, short is good.
think I mentioned before that some places where I maneuvered and parked on my trip to CA and back would have been difficult or impossible with a coach very much longer.
If one's garage is only about 32', the ride and abundant space of a true motorcoach (40+) simply isn't feasible.
On the other hand, short class C and B's have soooo little living space and typically get fuel economy marginally better than a class A, if at all. Road Trek (and equivalents) are well engineered. But it reminds me of engine comparisons: There is no substitute for cubic inches, or cubic feet.

It is all about the mission you have in mind, and the investment of time vs money you are willing to make.

I think there are several places where these variables could combine to produce different but satisfactory compromises.

I just want a diesel cuz I don't have one yet... or a shorty gasser, either. head bang

after filling 200 Gallons of diesel in the tanks to the tune of $4.339 per Gallon my mind gets a little fuzzy sometimes. Especially in a good 30mph headwind in Wyoming that brings your mpg down to 4.8
Then you look at that gas price of 3.799. But you are right, 80'000 lbs with a gas motor Frowner no thanks. Glad the beast works for its fodder.

The last gasser tractor trailer I worked on was an early 1980's era C800 Ford. It was a Roadway Express Truck and had a belt drive air compressor.

It couldn't pull for anything. They only used it locally. The truck had a 2 speed rear end and the largest unit it could pull was a 28' pup trailer. Fuel mileage was very dismal at around 3 mpg on a good day.

Talk about longevity... the C800 Truck was produced from 1957 to 1990. Eeker

If he hasn't sold it yet. Buckeye Barth in Waynsville OH. has a real nice Breakaway for sale. I looked at this coach a few months ago. Low milage, stored inside, well mantained. worth a trip if your wanting to move to a D.P. Under side look like a couple year old coach.

We couldn't exist in a 30' Breakaway, it just doesn't have enough outside compartment or inside closet and cupboard space. But we also go to Arizona for 4-5 months and live in it for the winter. (I can see why people like slides!)
If you plan on spending a lot of your time in wilderness state and national parks, even 30' may be too long. We stay in an RV park 'cause we're just trying to escape winter.
Given the economy and what these things are selling for these days I'd go for a Regency. Diesel pusher about 32' behind you and under the bed, air suspension, air brakes, and s diesel genny up front makes for a great way to go down the road! The LPG tank is huge too, we only had to fill up once this year.
That's just my $0.02 worth.
We love our Barth.
