Not in our house, there has to be a full roll on the spindle , the almost empty roll on top and three spares at arms reach in the closet........

Position one reminds me of the Boeing 767.

The toilet sucked everything to a tank in the back.

You could gently pull off two or three feet and place the end in the bowl. When the flush handle was depressed, the valve at the bottom of the bowl opened and the paper was sucked off the roll until the timer stopped the fun. I don't remember how many seconds it was, but it was mildly entertaining to do that now and then. Especially to show the trick to someone who didn't know about it.

The front toilets were the most fun for this, since they had a longer timer setting than the real ones, owing to the distance involved.
