Too bad they didn't have a wide angle lens....I'd LOVE to see where it finally ended

This is actually one of the shortest overhang coaches ever.
The photo cut off the left side of the picture, where the front is. The part of the coach showing on the right side of the picture is actually the rear. ....And, Yes, the rear axle steers in concert with the front. They were not very popular because they took up two lanes to make a normal turn on city streets, and drivers never learned to allow for the rear wheel steering.

You forgot to mention that it was a 440 Dodge front-wheel-drive, rear engine setup.....

Yeah, I did forget. The driveshaft tunnel really got in the way of cargo storage. Because the driveshaft pathway was so long, they had to use several u joints and carrier bearings. Different configurations were tried, all aimed at the horrible harmonics generated by so many u joints in such a flexible chassis. They finally settled on Rzeppa universals, but no one wanted to buy an American RV with foreign parts. The irony of it was, Rzeppa was an American, but the damage was already done, and the design was dropped from the line.
You can still see some of the chassis now and then, used for those super long limos that have a spa or swimming pool or something in the back.
Several of the Rose Parade floats every year use a beefed-up version of that chassis. In that usage, the 440 is usually replaced with a flat six Franklin engine taken from an M56 Scorpion, to effect a lower profile, and to have the advantages of air cooling.

Danny ZWe've seen similar before, but why would you show the coach from this angle?

ccctimtationDanny, they couldn't back it in and they couldn't get in the palm trees for the shot so they took what they could get.

This one is a candidate for my patented load-bearing (single) pivot-wheel tag axle that attaches to the hitch. I have added a little more kingpin inclination to cut down on the tail-wagging that plagued these coaches. Shortly after Airstream released this model, they issued a bulletin limiting road speed to 25 mph with full tanks and 35 with empty tanks. With my invention, it can be driven at any speed, with empty tanks, with no tail-wagging.
There is an option that senses incipient wagging, either by lateral accelerometers (or an RVDT on the wheel pivot) that allows unlimited speed with full tanks and even ammunition stored in the rear compartment. The circuit sends a slight differential braking input to the appropriate electric brake on the OEM tag axle to counteract the wag, providing a perfectly straight path down the road, as straight as a Fritos truck.

Bill, it would have been almost believable had you not included AMMUNITION.

Bill N.Y.I'd like to know where you found that at? Length of the entire rig?
Funny blurb

Funny blurb
I saw one and wrote it down and Googled it later to get a postable image.
It is an Airstream 370 LE. Gonna guess the LE means
Length Enhanced, Long Entourage or maybe Limited Edition.

Steve VWWow... 40 ft gasser. What kind of hp is the 460 making? Just seems wrong..

Then there's that overhang thing, really b'ugly...
BTW the utube video doesn't work. Amazing that a 1990 has everything in "perfect" condition. I mean 22 years old... perfect? hmmm?

Envision this....
Momma's taking a nap on the rear king....
Rolls over in bed during nap.....
Front wheels come off of ground.....
Actually, I don't think it's 40 feet...more like 34 to 36 at most....
Also did you notice all the compartment doors are missing....must have popped off when Momma rolled over during napping....
