If you a member of FMCA you know that in their annual edition there is a section on stopping spots in the back.

Members offer their services to other members. If you have mechanical trouble on the road you could call a member for assistance. Some even have overnite parking available.

Here I am thinking again. Gets dangerous!

What are your thoughts? From this I can guess at 3 things.

  • We should all be members of FMCA.
  • Members offer their services to other members.
  • We should ask you how to remove spots on the back of our coaches?
I'm being funny here. I know that "Stoppen Spots" or "stopping spots" refer to people willing to allow you to park overnight.

I think I'll let this one play out here, in this post. Does anyone think we should pole our members on who will do what for another member? Should there be another forum, like a "Services Offered" or "Members to Members Services"? Should I list it on the Portal Page as a link?

I guess then it could even be a commercial venture too. Member X offers a "Chrome Polishing/Plating Service", Member XX offers a "Drive Away Service". Then, wouldn't this get us members who only want to make a buck off of you and anyone else who drives a Winnie?

I've seen other members offer up overnight parking "Bill G" is one I can remember. I also think that I've seen another member offer up mechanic services to any fellow Barthmobile member in their area but I can't remember who that was. Big Grin

I'm serious about this point: If anyone has a suggestion, please do what Gary has done, start a public topic and let's discuss it. Thank you Gary.

Quite often, it can be useful to have a local person just to ask who is good and who is honest in their community. It can also be useful to belong to a veterans' or fraternal organization.
Advice from police will be all over the map, but I got really good advice from a highway patrolman when we rolled our car and boat into a ball. He recommended a tow service two towns away on acc of their proven competence.

The BMW Owners Motorcycle Assoc., aka the "MOA", publishes the "Anonymous Book", available to members only. It lists members willing to help with a trailer or home workshop in case of a breakdown on the road.
Sounds like a good idea. But not something to be made public on the web.

I can make up a forum that can only be accessed by a registered user with a post count of XX or higher. This way the bots, non-members & guests can not see inside of it. This would help our members and keep the info private. Can anyone besides me and a select group that knows about "The Basement" see inside that forum? Heck, if I wanted to I could make that forum disappear to everyone and the only people who would even know it's there is the ones I turn it on for.

With this forums software I can select all sorts of functions and options.

So, if privacy is the only concern that would keep this from going forward there are solutions.

I could even make it "only available" to fellow members willing to reciprocate too. You would call that group something like "The Network Group" and then give them their own forum to discuss what they are willing to offer and allow only them to see that sites info.

Don, as an example, I've turned on the forum to you and the moderators called "Community News" It has been hidden all of this time. I am attempting to support a mechanism to allow all members or certain members to add stuff to the portal "Important Announcements:" area without me.

I could choose any, some, or all, or make up something new... Anyone with a post count of XX or higher, a member who donates, A power group member, anyone in the Forum Junkie Club, a "5+ Year Member", etc... could change the Important Announcements: on the Barth Portal Page, on their own, by adding to this forum. This will show you what I mean. No one else here, besides the moderators and you, should be able to see into that site now.

Then after checking it out - logout as Don in Niagara and attempt to view again. Is that private enough?

[edit]Community News is now active, all can see inside of that site now. 9/7/07[/end edit]
