My son-in-law, aka the jet pilot, has been bitten by the RV bug. Seems to have something to do with the one-year old triplets, and how can one take a reasonably priced vacation with three kids. So, he's looking at diesel class c's and can't believe the numbers. The daughter says he can't buy one until they win the lottery or can get one for under $20000. Now this guy is a first class mechanic, can do anything on a car or truck. Today, I had a senior moment and said to myself "Self, why not take a Barth with twin beds and put bunk beds in and use the pull out sofa for mom and dad. Does anyone know of anybody that did that? Wonder if a 28'Regal would be the unit or maybe a 30' Breakaway. Probably would have to have a tag for all their junk. Any thoughts?

There were a lot of 28 regals with rear bath and twin beds in a walk thru bedroom. But any twin bed coach would work for bunks. Several manufacturers sold "bunkhouses" like that. I often thought of one when I had kids. And also consider a gaucho bed. 30 tags are scarce. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

Well, I guess you haven't been reading my posts. I have one of these in the back bedroom. 2 on the bottom and 1 up top. I have an overhead bed. Sleeps 1 I have a queen click clack bed that sleeps 2 with underneath storage. Lower left. I have a side bench that doubles as a bed. Sleeps 1, lower right. I can technically sleep 7 2 queens = 4 and 3 individual beds You could even put one of those bunks in the living area if you really had too. For my use, we have had 5 people with no doubling up. It's nice to sleep in a big bed by yourself.

Hi Guys. On my 1976 Barth 27 footer I have the pull down bed above the driving area, plus the fold out couch, also the twins on each side of the aisle ,above the drivers side twin above ther are cabinets the same length as the bunk ,at the bottom of the cabinets the front is attached with a piano hinge , the whole front section of the cabinets fold down onto stops to make a bunk the same size as the bottom complete with mattress. This was installed by Barth when new. Ralph Ralph Glover 1976 27' Barth P-30 454 1998 Tracker Toad

OK, the perfect set up seems to be the single pull down bed above the drivers area, fold out couch for two in the main seating area, and twins, either with rear bath or center bath. My question is what models, and years would I look for? Is all this available on the Barth CD? I'm not very computer literate and have not had much success looking for specific things on the CD. I just play it from beginning to end. Sort of dumb, huh? Did they make any 30' Breakaways with this configuration? And I would want something that had a little more basement storage than my 85 Regal with the P chasis. Thanks Jim

I searched the Barth CD the other day with a similar question. The best reference I found was the 1990 Regal brochure which shows several floor plans in several lengths, representing several common configurations. My own '90 Regal SE has a floor plan different from all of them. Go figure. Barth may have built a custom or two with the fold-down bed over the cockpit, and there are some previous threads here on the subject of installing such a bed. To find one for sale that is ready to go, would be an immense stroke of luck. Another alternative would be be fold down berths above twins in the center, or rear, but they are also likely to be scarce as hens teeth. Barth didn't cater to the family coach market, they were marketing to upscale retirees. Either of these solutions could be added to an existing coach, but both will cost some overhead storage space.

One of my SOBs had a gaucho bed, and it served as storage, too. We found that a lot of flat stuff like sun curtains, etc, could be stored under the mattress without impairing its use as a bed. It may not have completely balanced out the loss of a forward overhead storage compartment, but it was quite useful. Some things, like fish rods, kites, rifles, etc, were easily taken down for sleeping. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

Hey, Bill New York, do you recall where you bought the bunk beds for your Barth? Guess I could go on the internet and search for motor home bunk beds. Any help would be appreciated. Also am thinking about replacing my Barth original couch with an electrically operated one. I think the original was Flexsteel. Guess I should call them. Any other manufacturers of these automatic couches that anyone knows about? Jim

I went to my local bedding shop. I have seen this same bed in many places. A quick Google search yielded this one. http://www.furnitureesuperstore.com/bedroom/bunk-cfuton-2inch.asp I would do a more in-depth search for better pricing. I liked the C Futon Bunk bed for it's dual use as a seat and for the extra room the C styling offers with it's open ends. I removed the front guard on the top bed. It's a child protection guard to keep the kiddies from falling out. My adult friends were a little put off by the guard the first time out, I told them it was a drunk restraining system and at that point was forced to remove it.

Bill, I would like to see pictures of the inside of your coach with the bunk bed/futon in it. Thanks, Jim

Here are some quick pictures. Here are the dimensions of my coach. I drew this up when I was planning on redoing the interior. While some things have changed slightly, nothing in the back bedroom area has.
