There are some things you will only see on the road.

The Weiner mobile!
This was near St. Louis.

Economic stimulus means that good highways will be torn up. Yellowstone to Grand Tetons National Park is about 20 miles. It took about 2 hours.

I might look good with a buzz cut. But not on these terms. At Zion, the rangers ran this road so that traffic only went in one direction when RVs and big rigs were going.

Get your kicks....

now for some other motorized scenery....

At the Anaheim RV Park, when we pulled in, there was a "classic truck" show. Now, part of the inspiration for our family trip was the "extra features" on the Cars DVD, where one of the directors of the movie reviewed his family trip in an RV. So in the movie, there is the cartoon character, Mater, as voiced by "Larry the Cable Guy". And all these classic trucks looked as if they could be the cousins of Mater. My boys and I were ecstatic.

When we got in the RV park, we saw this classic that looks as if it could be a cousin of the RV which started in the movie, RV.

At Grand Tetons N.P., there is a nice RV park, which we stayed at, at which is booked solid. We liked the area so much, we stayed longer. But we had to go to the economical RV park in the N.P. This was there. It had to be from Texas.

Heading east, we stopped near St. Louis. The family was tired from traveling, and I was persuaded of the wisdom of stopping to see a movie. When we parked, the lot was empty. When we came out, it was full. This classic from Texas was a bit close in parking.

Here we go, Winslow, Arizona. The Wigwam Motel was the inspiration for "The Cozy Cone Motel" in the movie Cars.

Happy Motoring!
Matt

Re: Stimulus & torn-up highways. We lived in the east for ten years, pre-stimulus, & drove coast-to-coast for summer vacations with family in the west. Every year we encountered similar torn-up mountain highways, an annual requirement caused by freezing. I should think that a Mass. native would have some similar experience around home, though their cold winters can't hold a candle to the western mountains.

Nice report. Plenty of rigs blow up on the passes in Colorado. Do you have more pics of your trip? I'd like to take a similar trip when we get our Barth ready.

I looked up the "Goodmoodmission.com" that shows up on the weinermobile, he's a blurb on what is going on in weinermobileland....Oscar Mayer and Kristin Chenoweth are on a Mission to Deliver Good Moods for a Good Cause

New Campaign Pledges 2 Million Pounds of Food for Feeding America

Madison, Wisconsin
January 19, 2010

Oscar Mayer, the brand known for putting smiles on the faces of Americans for more than 125 years, is partnering with Emmy and Tony Award winner, Kristin Chenoweth, to launch the Good Mood Mission. The charity initiative is on a mission to turn America's good moods into 2 million pounds of food for Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger-relief organization, which provides food to 25 million Americans every year.

The Oscar Mayer brand will jumpstart the campaign with a 1 million pound food donation and is asking for America's help to match this at www.GoodMoodMission.com. For every "good mood moment" America creates or shares, Oscar Mayer will donate more food to reach the total goal of 2 million pounds.

Dusty Jeeper! Bill NY! More pictures? Oh, do I have pictures. We took over a thousand, and wore out two cameras.

In Grand Tetons, I even got photos of bald eagles. But the autofocus on the camera failed to operate, and I didn't realize this until much later.

Our first night on the road was spent at a highway rest stop in NY, just shy of Pennsylvania. It was quite crowded with tractor-trailers when we turned in for the night. And I learned about staying at a highway rest area, near an upgrade, where the truckers going through the night are laying in to the throttle. It was not a restful sleep. In the morning, we saw something that looked like the Fillmore character out of the movie Cars:

And given the nature of the movie Cars, and how it was alleged by movie critics to be an advertisement for Nascar, well, my son was very happy that first morning on the road, to wake up and see this parked in front of us:

Well, organizing my pictures has been taking some time, and the computer I am on right now does not have the pictures too well organized. But I am on this computer, and I am posting...

So, we jump around a bit with the pictures....

Here was the start of a highway construction area, I think in Missouri. I loved this convertible...

"California Dreaming, on a winters day". Well, this is my dream from last summer. This is the Command Post facing West, when there is no more pavement. This is a parking lot in Northern California, on the way to Crescent City.

By a quirk of fate, we ran in to a Barth piloted by the country singer Earl Wear. This is at Yellowstone, just moments before torrents of rain fell upon us.

Not all traffic jams were caused by highway projects. Some were caused by herds of Buffalo in Yellowstone. On my dashboard, you can see the Command Post Pinewood Derby racer, the remains of a hula dancer, and then a new crack in my windshield and the traffic situation.

"The Grand Tetons". Does anyone know French? Wink

Looking back on it, it seems like a dream. OK, a dream that left me with some credit card balances....
