It looks like they took a Silver Streak Trailer and placed it on a Mercedes Benz Truck Frame.

That was my first thought, too, but the placement of the drive axle seems a little far rearward for a trailer. So, now, I am not so sure.

But, I have to think that Silver Streak would have made something a little better looking than that.

I doubt the coach came out of anyplace except the Silver Streak plant, but I also doubt that Silver Streak would have made this thing & tried to sell it. It's most likely someone's personal experiment.

Forty years ago when the motor home concept was just beginning to be commercialized, there were a number of factory & custom experiments. I remember two examples, one Airstream, & one Spartan that had been grafted onto the early GM Toronado/Eldorado FWD platform.

This Silver Streak coach looks to be about that vintage though, as El Segundo Bill notes, the rear axle placement doesn't look like a trailer.

The EBay ad says there were only 20 made. My bet is that this was an early motorhome limited production. The Mercedes chassis is an interesting choice. I wonder how hard it was to find diesel back then?

I found this thread on Hanomag diesels. It kinda explains the Mercedes connection..."A very interesting Truck, front wheel drive.
Started life as Tempo Matador.
Tempo was taken over by Hanomag, which in Turn was taken over by Henschel, which eventually was taken over by Mercedes.
The truck is still being build, albeit it modernised, as MB 100 in Spain."

I believe the EBay MH says Matador across the front grill. A front wheel drive might explain why SS would choose this odd brand.
