Hi All,

I've just decided that I'm going to take my show on the road and do a work/live combo out of a motorhome for 6-8 weeks at a time for a while.

I'm considering a Barth as my vehicle, as I've long appreciated what I've seen. That said, I'm fresh from restoring a 77' Cortez and I'm very concerned about the availability of parts for my next coach. I do not want to be stuck on the road while I attempt to find an elusive steering component.

What is part availability like for the late 80's - 90's diesel pusher models? I'd be looking for sizes from 30-36' What chassis what the coach built on?

Could anyone help give me a quick breakdown of what to expect so I can determine if Barth is a good and viable option for me?

Thanks in advance!
Andrew

Late 80s to 90s Barths use standard RV chassis like Spartan, Freightliner, etc. and standard drive-line components too. You should be fine with all of it. I would possibly shy away from the Breakaways with the air/hydraulic brakes as the boosters are made from unobtanium from what I've read here. Then again, compared to a Cortez, I think all Barths are pretty modern with parts availability.

Welcome to the Forums!

The air-over-hydraulics, for the most part, are found in the 5.9L Cummins-powered Breakaways.

The "MCC" Regencies have a suspension for which parts can be difficult to get (Most are DD 8.2L powered).

I'm am looking at buying a 30' Breakaway and am wondering what you do to replace the boosters on a Breakaway, what are your options & cost.

Thanks for any thoughts,

Cheers,

This is a case of not really knowing what I am talking about, but there are number site on the internet selling parts for air over hydraulic systems including the boosters.

However, having said that it is not something I am going to worry about at this time.

And lastly I would like to hear from someone who has had a problem replacing this item.

Here is a writeup that Ed did a few years ago. See his PDF File for additional info.

Brake master cylinder replacement

I thought the biggest problem, parts availability, was with the air over hydraulic found on the MCC Chassis Barths.

I replaced the master cylinder/booster on our 33' Breakaway. I purchased the complete unit from Spartan. My mechanic replaced it in a couple of hours. The front and rear units on the same part numbers and Spartan stocks them. Flew it out overnight and was back on the road the next day. And yes, it was not cheap. But we're talking about your safety here. What price do you put on that?

Is this a generic? type of parts availability where one size fits all/or can be made to fit? OR?
