http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_Day Veterans Day Prayer By Susan Kramer "You gave for peace with courage That families may be free So children could grow strong And safe they'd ever be. In giving for the sake of peace You may have suffered loss Your body may still show its wounds From taking up the cause. May remembrance of your time away Your sacrifice for peace Spur us on to strive more strongly For freedom, that there'll be release. From causes that sent some away To fight that we may freely live With gratefulness we thank you, veterans For all you gave and give!"

This morning the elementary school that my grandchildren attend had a Veteran's Day program and invited all of their relatives that were veterans to attend. Their son, their father, US Army, and I, US Navy, both attended. The kids had gathered pictures of most all of us in uniform during our term of service and had them displayed on a wall of "Our Heroes". A nice breakfast was served followed by a program put on by the children. They started the program by playing the songs of all the different branches of service and asking the members of those branches to stand and be recognized when their song was played. The program continued with a presentation of the colors by the local Jr. High JROTC, the student body Pledging allegiance to the Flag, and other patriotic observations. Children ranging in age from 5 to 12 may not know the significance of their actions, but the meaning to all those active duty and retired personnel from their parents to their grandparents and great-grandparents will be remembered. When a 12 year old played TAPS (beautifully I will add), the response from the veterans was emotional to say the least. Nick | |||
