VIDEO: B-day message from MCPON, CNO and SECNAV Today is the 236th Birthday of the U.S.Navy. Thank you to all who place their life on the line daily. We're truly grateful for your service. The United States Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy, which the Continental Congress established on 13 October 1775, by authorizing the procurement, fitting out, manning, and dispatch of two armed vessels to cruise in search of munitions ships supplying the British Army in America. The legislation also established a Naval Committee to supervise the work. All together, the Continental Navy numbered some fifty ships over the course of the war, with approximately twenty warships active at its maximum strength.

Unlike Tom and Rusty , I was one of the grunts that had to work for a living. Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class. USN eight years 1962-1969. If it had been left up to Donna, I would still be serving today. It was an honor and I was proud to serve. Thanks to all who have expressed their appreciation over the years and to those of you who called us "Baby Killers" and spit on us coming after Viet Nam, well you know who you are. Thanks for the opportunity to serve. Nick | |||
