I pulled the plate. I bought the van from my B-in-L, who had been U S Army in Germany before Ft. Sam Houston then Atlanta. I'll get it out when I get a chance.

Finally got around to getting into the storage unit, (we were gone for awhile to Quartzsite and Salome), and found that i have not one but 2 Hawaii plates. One is the old style and the other is the newer, (well, as of about 20 years ago,Big Grin ) style. Both will be on their way to you in a day or two.....enjoy! Smiler

The plate's in the mail - it would have dated to around 1987

Hey Corey are you ready for this? I found the rest of my OLD Michigan plates. I know you already have MI for 53 and 54 (and 2010) but check these out!

Bill NY this is your lucky day! Corey's gonna need a cosigner and you can retire!

1917 pair, 1919 single (3 total)

1920's: 20-29 complete pairs, extra pair 20 (22 total)

1930's: 30-39 pairs (20 total)

1940's: 40-42 pairs, 43 corner tabs, 44-49 single (12 total)

1950's: 50, 51 single (you have 53, 54), 57 pair 58,59 single (6 total)

1960's: 61 tabs, 62 pair, 63,64 tabs, 65,66 single, 67-69 pairs (10 total)

1970's: 70,71,(72 stickers on 71)73 pairs (74,75 stickers on 73) (6 total)

And even Trailers! 1919, 1936, 40-42, 43 tabs, 44-46, 48, 49, 51 (11 total if you count these!)

I knew I had these around somewhere. I didn't want to tease you but I thought I still had them. Maybe they're worth more to a collector, But if you want em we'll keep em in the BM family!

As for Bill NY... you can decide what you owe him! confusion

Those 1917 and 19 plates got to be rare.. how many cars were driving in MI then?

I agree, a couple of those old plates might be worth some big bucks. Might want to do some research on them.

These plates all belonged to my friend's grandfather. He lived in the UP of MI: same house, same garage all his life. I guess he got his first car in 1917 and nailed the plates to the garage wall each year. He quit driving, sold the car around 1975 and passed away soon after. When grandma later moved into assisted living they sold the house but somebody put the plates in a box. (What a life story they could tell!)

My friend got the box in the 80's. I had a 54 Chev he gave me the 53/54 plates he had, offered me the rest. I said OK but we forgot about them till about 15 yrs ago when he was cleaning out his dad's garage. Then they got lost in my garage rafters till last week. I'd forgotten how many there were(!) but I knew the 53/54 were part of a set.

Friend assured me he still didn't want them. I don't need them. If we can sell them for a fortune then we'll split 4 ways: me, friend, Corey, and Bill!

Steve,

Definitely be sure of what you want to send my way. If some are worth big money, go ahead and put them on EBay as I wouldn't want to take advantage of your hospitality. Then you can split the proceeds with your friend that gave them to you. The super cool ones that make it my way will get mounted inside the airstream as I wouldn't want to see them deteriorate.

I got a cool Iraqi plate from my son today that he brought back from al Anbar Province. Bullet holes and all. That will also get mounted indoors.

They are too nice to stick in the ground, please find some "higher grounds". Too bad the cars they belonged to are gone ...
