Bruce & Kathleen2009 Nation's Capital Barthmobile G-T-G 10/9-10/12
14 of 24 sites on Barth Row are reserved. 1 is pending their reservation (Bill G) and 1 has now advised his possible plans to attend (Sloop John B). If my math is right, that would be 16 of 24 sites taken for this GREAT GTG

. Only 8 sites left on Barth Row...are you the one that is going to take one of them

? I wouldn't wait too long

!

p.s. I am planning on arriving Thursday night and departing Monday.

I believe that I'll be doing this too... I might even leave late Sunday if the weather is not good, we'll see.
Lee, what's the best times to try and approach this area from the North down 95?

Mid-day is best (11a-3p)....just the normal
I-95/495 mayhem of pass-thru traffic - the locals are already at work.......Even later in the afternoon, at the start of rush hour, isn't too bad, as you'll be coming in against the flow of the rush hour folks...After about 4pm, there
is no flow to rush hour - it just comes at ya from every direction.......

It's all pretty straightforward, with the exception of the 95/495 mixing bowl. To get to Cherry Hill, the signage is counter-intuitive, as you need to ignore the
College Park signs and go where you think you shouldn't be until you see a dedicated 1-mile long exit ramp for
Route 1-Southbound. I've got a good sketch of the mixing bowl showing this, and I'll be posting it to:

Bruce & KathleenJust an update for those still thinking about making the trip to the D.C. GTG...fuel prices are falling fast, so that may not be a factor in making the trek to D.C.!!! Regular gas has fallen to below $2.00 per gallon in New Jersey and diesel fuel is less than $3.00. And it continues to fall daily!

Danny ZBruce & Kathleen, We love your optimism and support for this GTG. However, it might be prudent to point out that this GTG is nearly a year away, and while daily fuel prices look REALLY good right now, things just MIGHT change a bit between now and then. Suzie and I are just going to keep listening to the good news and planning to attend, but things just might change a tiny bit in the year to come.

What a shame that fuel prices actually look good to us right now.

Though you are correct about timing, better they go down then up

! And I agree with Bill. It is a shame that we look at the price of fuel and are happy.

Danny ZI see your point, but I'm looking at gas @ just over 2 bucks a gallon. If I had to buy diesel @ 3.30+ I wouldn't be too happy either.

Eric HerrleAdd another one to the list! We'll be arriving 10-9, departing 10-12. This should be entertaining.

Bruce & KathleenHey, just a thought....for those traveling from different areas (Northeast, South, etc...), maybe as we get closer to this GREAT GTG we can coordinate those who will be arriving the same time (i.e. Bill-NY and myself) to meet up on major highways (i.e. I95) and caravan in together.
And for those who are still thinking about making the GTG...don't you want to meet up with some of the fine folks you communicate with on a regular basis on this site? Just think, we have Barth owners coming from all over the country!!! When else might you have the chance to meet these fine folks?

Today's DC-GTG History Tid-Bit:When you leave the comfort of your Barth and head downtown next October for your sight-seeing adventures, you'll probably take the MetroRail. If so, you'll pass by Gallaudet University. This highly acclaimed institution is the world's only university where
all classes, programs and services are designed specifically for the deaf or hearing-impaired. Founded in 1864, today's student body of over 1700 achieve undergraduate and post-grad degrees in many disciplines.....
....and if you're a football fan, you see Gallaudet's contribution to the sport every time you watch a game......
During one of their leather-helmeted confrontations in the 1890's, the Gallaudet Bisons were starting an offensive series when they realized that the opposing players were "reading" their sign-language communications for the next play. The Bisons elected to move back from the line of scrimmage, get into a tight-knit circle, bend over and block the view of their "discussions".......Yep, you guessed it....the advent of the
huddle !!

The game officials allowed it, but to keep the playing field level, all teams were subsequently given the same option.
...And we want YOU to join OUR huddle at the 2009 Barth DC-GTG....Make plans now!

Bruce & KathleenHaven't left a post lately and with the Florida GTG on the very near horizon, I'll take a back seat and wait for some of the anticipated photos and conversation of this GTG. Hopefully, the D.C. GTG will be a topic of one of their discussions!!!
