Thanks for the data tag info - it appears that you have a 454. From what we've "been able to document" with the tags, your coach was the earliest one to have a 454 powerplant. Before yours, the biggest GM/Chevy was a 402 engine.

The operable phrase being "been able to document". Big Grin

I wish you lots of luck with your coach and hope you keep us updated with pics... We love pictures here! Thumbs Up

Torch Lake is so beautiful. If your family still has the cottage it is worth lots even in today's real estate market!

Frame rust could be spooky..hope it's not too bad, but that's what welders are for. Most of the Barth coach aluminum is probably OK. The square steel tubes used behind the fender skirts and cargo areas are prone to rusting but usually not a structural concern.

I knew Bill could put that data to use. Does the coach start/run? The 454 engine is a good one. Common, reliable and easy to find parts. I have one in my 33 ft. In your 25 ft it should be very happy.

Keep those pics coming. We all love Barth projects.

"saw about a foot & a half section of the frame missing"

I hate hearing that. I have probably the "least" cared for Barth in this forum prior to the rework, but the frame was solid. That Salt Air of Florida must have been nasty...

Did the rest of the frame "pass the test", I ask hopefully!

Matt

Hello all,
Yes, I have a 454 and, to my excitement, she turns over optimistically! I had it on the charger yesterday. But that's it for now, she won't start yet. I need to keep digging to see what's locked up. I'm more hopeful about the engine than I am about the frame. Everything that's not aluminum has rusted. I wish I could just pull the body off the chassis, but that's too tall an order for me just yet.

For now, I'll continue to remove the interior, try to shine up the exterior aluminum (for the neighbors!) and tinker with the motor. I've got more time than money, but I have a great resource in all of you, thank you for your help and encouragement. I'll keep track with photos as I go.

Ok, back outside to finish washing the grime away!

Ok, life has sidelined my renovation project for now, however Bill NY asked me if I had any information about the new windshiled that I have. Sadly, I have nothing that would be helpful. There was no paperwork in the wooden box crate. The crate had no markings on it and it was severely rotted; I left the box in FL. Anyway, as soon as we get slightly cooler days here in NC I'll be back on it!

put down your rag, and order yourself a Cyclo Polisher!!!, I promise you it will be the best investment you ever made! Also, there is a coat of some sort of shelac or something on top of the Aluminuim, grab a couple of cans of airplane stripper from the automotive store and spray her down and strip that off!

I've been using a cyclo polisher on my paint jobs. It is do much easier to control than my buffer.

Perhaps you can see the wording in the lower corners. Perhaps a part number might be visible on this because it isn't faded from the sun?

Remember, if you do replace your windshields, don't toss out the old ones until you give someone an opportunity to get them.

I pulled the new windshield out of storage and I'm sorry to report that there are no identification markings on either piece.
