the biggest issue was/is the brakes. I managed to get them to work somewhat, also tighten up the emergency brake...fortunatly we didnt have to stop much..lost a fan belt and a muffler bracket broke which caused a tire blow out..other than that we made the 300+ mile trip home, my buddy followed in my truck. The motor is very good, trans good,.
all systems seem to work or will with a little trouble shooting.
we replaced the front airshocks b4 we left, also a few hoses, bleed the brakes, filled the fluids, and babied her home.
the roof issues seem fixable, the inside roof issue will be easily fixed,,we think! the floor is solid thruout the water damage seems to be a onetime event...ie hurricane. one fuel tank as a leak we just used the one. with shore power the A/c's work as does the fridge.
The water heater looks fine, the water system looks fine too.
All in all this rig was taken care of, the seller said the original owner died and his wife let her sit for about 5 years with the last it being a club house for her gran dkids.
I'll let ya'll know more. Now
I've got a 22' Airstream also, but have always wanted a Barth. This one is a handyman special..and that is me. Ya gotta be tough if ya gonna be stupid. I too think I got a fair deal, I appreciate any suggestions and help.

Dave

Anytime you get an older coach belts should be replaced. I've read on this site many times someone getting a coach and their belt blows out on the way home.

You were taking a chance driving without a good set of brakes and I'm sure if they were really that bad you would have worked on it a little more before driving it home. You had enough time to change out shocks... Why was that? The hoses was a good idea. How was it running on 6 year old gasoline? Did it improve after the first fill up? Your quote "Ya gotta be tough if ya gonna be stupid" put a smile on my face, thanks Smiler

the fan belt seemed ok..my bad. The front airshocks were A. one was broken, B. seemed to be the thing to do.
We drained the gas tank, it ran GREAT!
Thankfully the owner had all the manuals and service records he also made notes in these books where he modified things so we are just going to go thru the coach and tighten up what is not working. The roof is our first order of business, hydro blast the old cool coat off and reapply w/ new

Well chatt this just goes to show you that in the hands of a master things can happen. It appears that you know what you are doing. I know that if I were living in FL I wouldn't want to spend a lot on a coach that might become a missle. hehe (just kidding Rusty)

Keep us up to date one this one..

I don't know about changing those colors. If you leave 'em the way they are, you'd certainly have the most distinctive coach in the U.S.A. You'd get even more than the usual comments about the wonders of Barths, plus finger-pointing and belly laughs from every ten-year old kid you passed.

There is a movement afoot in Los Angeles and its environs to ban RV parking in residential areas, driveway or street.

It is possible that a paint job such as the original one under discussion could further polarize relations between RV owners and the rest.

You are assuming all Angelenos live on the beach. Au contraire: The number of folks who appreciate or, at worst, are REFRESHED by this paint scheme are approaching a majority of voters in LA proper - and perhaps this is a good thing! Love - G

I live well into the Florida Appenines, 98 lofty feet above sea level...the only real problem hurricanes cause is enough rain to bring the river up into the yard.

There is usually a paint code/color label somewhere inside the grille. It would be interesting to see what Barth named those colors. ..........Other than Refreshing Pink, Refreshing Purple and Refreshing Gray, that is. Smiler
