I could be a 6V92 or an 8V92, turbo or non turbo. These two strokes are become relics, but if well maintained are an awesome motor. Prone to overheating. In case you didn't know, the 6V92 is 6 cylinders of 92 cubic inches each for a displacement of 552 cubic inches total, the 8V92 adds two more cylinders, or 736 ci. Being two strokes (fire on every revolution of the piston) they put out huge HP for their size, but HP = heat. They could easily overheat on hot days and heavy hills. There were also earlier engines in 6V72 and 8V72 sizes. Most of the older Wanderlodges, Prevosts, Newells and MCIs were equipped with these beasts. Great sound, lots of smoke, oil drips like a Harley, but a well loved engine in its day. 6-71 inline & 6v71 in vee configurations & the 8V71. I use to rebuild these engines on a regular basis for a cement mixing & refuse company. There was not a 72 series.

My memory failed me. I even owned one, very anemic without the turbo. OK....In a few years, I want to look at a Diesel. What are pros-cons of the different brands etc...Caterpillar, Detroit, Cummins, 2 stroke, 4 stroke... Things I'm concerned about, would be, in my order of preference: 1. Reliability 2. Ease/Expense/Availability of repair 3. Ability to not be used for 1, 2 or 3 months at a time and difficulty this might be on the engine.... 4. Fuel Economy I'm not familiar with the diesel truck engines and looking for each persons individual take and try to form my preference. I really, really want to hear your personal opinions and preferences and why or why not about different ones....there are no right or wrong ideas...different preferences for different situations... The reason I decided to go a P30, GM 454 puller was familiarity, reliability, can sit for several months and still run fine, overall inexpensive parts, anyone can work on it...but the down side is economy....but I'm not driving 20,000-30,000 year, so this was the right decision for me....but I expect to start putting 10,000-15,000 year on a coach in 5-7 years. Thanks for your help...K&E

Billy, 71s were equipped with Turbos, at least late in their production. I think a 2 stroke DD must have a Supercharger to run at all, so they all have them. Didn't that help with the oil spray pattern? No road left unsoiled.

I was sent these images of the coach - the data tag number places this at 34RG-2C. I checked the vin#, it is a 6V-92 and it is a widebody.

Hello people. I ended up with this coach. It's awesome. So far I have totally redone the front in hardwood and moving into the bedroom. There is a link somewhere with a pic. The engine is a 6v92 silver series. 23k miles. Twin turbo with a blower/supercharger. 2 stroke that makes a distinct high pitch whistle when running full tilt. 300hp with 972tq according to the build sheet that came with the vehicle. supposed to be a 500k rig. Replaced all fluids with Amsoil and all filters. More to come as I continue the revamp. Cheers Meric

You might want to relabel the switches. the one on the left is the Cool Matic fan, the center is the furnace and the right is the a/c. there is probably another furnace and a/c in the rear. 1993 32' Regency Wide Body, 4 speed Allison Trans, Front Entry door, Diamond Plate aluminum roof & 1981 Euro 22' w Chevy 350 engine and TH 400 tranny
