Hey guys be nice. Facebook is free. Just saying. There are a lot of free group sites that have a similar goal.

I opened a topic for an address. That's it. A different member noted his/her experience. Perhaps the verbage was too sharp. But the questions were legitimate. And he was met with Hostility. Yeah it was in a joking manner but come on.

So here is a guy who donated 40 bucks with an expectation of becoming a supporting member. And he waited patiently but what he thought would happen didn't. So he expressed a little disappointment with his donation experience.

Then he is made fun of. A marching band? granted you were joking but again he is already a bit jaded from the experience why stir the pot?

Certainly if I made a donation I would want a "gold supporting member" sticker by my mane too. If it did not happen over a period of three months I would wonder what my donations were actually being used for.

No one likes not to be noticed after an act of kindness.

Cheers
Meric

Bill will get to it when he can; as Kevin mentioned, the donation is appreciated even if a timely response isn't immediately forthcoming. This is Bill's busiest time of year and he's down a mechanic.

As far as offensive responses are concerned, PM me with those that are considered offensive, and I'll review and take appropriate action.

The first time I donated to Barthmobile, it took weeks before I saw the "supporting member" thing under our name, and that was a time when Bill was not dealing with the winter that the east coast has had his year. All I can say is we need to have patience, as this site is not a business, but a group with a common interest that volunteer their time. The one thing this thread did do, is it made me realize that it had been awhile since I had donated to the site. That has since been rectified.

I've been off the site for a week escaping the northern winter. I'm happy and glad to be in Florida with Tom and Nick in Everglades City. I am amazed by this thread...

I understand that many organizations can give immediate feedback on financial transactions... that's what they do for a living. However, when you donate (as opposed to purchase) to support anything, why does that entitle you to personal feedback? If you give away money, it is gone. If you don't like the result, don't bitch, just go somewhere else.

This site is a labor of love. There are many people who contribute with how-to postings, advice, and yes, money too. We should all be glad for the opportunity for participating for mutual benefit. Meanwhile, the site host screens for spammers and garbage, protecting us from the internet crap so common elsewhere.

Not to brag, but Liz and I have contributed thousands of dollars to our local schools for scholarship awards over the last ten years. Sometimes the recipients are kind enough to thank us with a letter, etc and it is nice to know they care. But often we never get any feedback. Never have we considered cutting the funds. The point is not the feedback but the satisfaction of knowing that we have promoted something worthwhile.

I give money to Barthmobile because it is a wonderful internet oasis that I enjoy. I could not care less whether Bill (or anyone else) documents this, I donate because the site is special, not me.

I am sorry that those who require immediate "at-a-boys" feel slighted... but I don't understand it.

As for Bill NY and Barthmobile.com, keep up the good work, do what you can, knowing I am appreciating every day I can use this site and always be ready to help any way I can.

Steve, that was so well said. When you expect a thanks for your giving, it becomes all about you, not about what you're giving for.

The purpose of the Fundraiser’s Promise to Donors is to create a bridge of trust and mutual respect between donors and Fundraisers. This ensures that Donors can have full confidence in the organization's and causes they are asked to support.

Just my two cents.

WOW... So much for mutual respect. Some people are divorced for a reason. They suck at being a good partner. Quality communication escapes them.

As a new member trying to be active with Barth mobile. I find myself being discouraged by snappy sharp comments. Perhaps it's an East coast West coast thing. Either way makes the "want to participate" level go down. With more than just me from what I have seen since I first started visiting.

Cheers

If we had sent Bill_NY too much money in the past he would have told us about the excess. On the contrary, I suspect that over the years Bill has had to supplement our donations with his own money in order to keep this outstanding site going.

We could probably solve that situation by having all members do the right thing and send a donation to Bill. We’ve avoided such a formal program in the past, for that has its own down side.

A truce now is appropriate. Let’s simply let things work their way out. Bill_NY is a good leader and needs no additional hyperbole from me. Trust him and the human spirit and we shall have a site we can all rely on for many moons to come.

WOW is right Meric. I wasn't trying to spread any hate or discontent. I love this site and was excited to find it. That is why I donated to it. I never expected anything. Had I expected something from my donation I would have ordered something. From the time we got our Barth it has been nothing but pure excitement for me. Where my disappointment started was getting on here every night to see if our data tag has been logged or if we have a pin in the map. It has never happened. That is when I made the remark about the donation. I was checking again and nothing. So I made my brash comment. I certainly wasn't trying to stir up this kind of crap, but a storm it did create. I agree Meric. I certainly got some unpleasant responses. At the same time I got some helpful ones. I didn't expect to be met with marching band comments, self cleansing site comments or if you are going to bitch go away comments. Sorry for being so damn excited and never seeing the map change. I will patiently wait now. Meric, have a great Washington week. You ever make it to Centralia, stop in I'll buy you lunch.

Things are teetering on the edge of the TOS, so I'm locking this thread for the moment...

You all HAVE read the Terms of Service, right?

... and I just unlocked it. Thanks for trying to watch out for me Rusty - I appreciate it, really I do.

So, I'm asleep at the wheel huh? Well, you've got that right. I have been burning the candles at both ends of the stick and have actually fallen asleep at the wheel of my service truck. Luckily, the only thing damaged was my right front fender when it went into the guard rail.

Running a 24hr emergency road service company in the North East has taken its toll on me. I had one mechanic fall off the roof of his house and snap his leg in 2 spot.

I am really taking some years off of my life by not sleeping. I have been a testbed for 5hr energy drink and coffee. I have been so short of sleep that I've been seen shaking to the point of not being able to write up a work order.

Pete, my one mechanic who has been with me for 17yrs is so wiped out that I'll be surprised if he stays on for another winter.

Loren (WCRV) I appreciate the donation. I really don't deserve it. I'll try to do better. Your initial donation was on Jan 16th. A month and a week ago.

For anyone who would like to research the weather extremes I've been dealing with since this time frame my zip code is 12550.

What little personal time I do have is spent making my wife and kids happy.

No need to lock this thread down as it'll be a constant reminder to me, and anyone else who might take the reins here, that you need to keep a better account of what's going on no matter what your personal or business situation is.

Please, if I forgot someone let me know and I'll straighten it out. You have my permission to let me have it if you feel like it. I'm an easy target as I wear my feelings on my sleeve. Ooops

Everyone's badge should be current - if not send me a PM and I'll look into it. I only had to add a badge to 3 members since Jan 1 and an additional member from Nov. The Nov one was late because his paypal address does not coincide with his barthmobile email address and it took a little research to find out who he was on our site.

Anyone who would like a phone call please shoot me a PM with your number and I'll call you back. Really - you're not putting me out any.

Believe it or not - there is a plus side to this. No time to eat either... I've lost about 60 lbs and can fit into clothes from HS - not bad at 48yrs of age. Big Grin

Kudos to you BillNY and all mechanics that keep us truckers rolling in freezing and adverse conditions at all hours. Rolling in mud under a trailer or gripping a tool in below freezing temps.
We wimped out of winter driving, it is not worth to get stuck at 40 below in the middle of Wyoming or pile up in Atlantas ice storm
Stay safe BillNY your family needs you more than anyone else

Good to hear from you Bill! I could stand to lose 60 pounds maybe I should come spend a month riding with you. Hopefully winter is about over and things will slow down for you. Just take care of yourself and we all look forward to seeing back on site more often.
May the BARTH be with you. Big Grin
