"The difference between and engineer and a tecnician is that an engineer can tell you why something works. He can't however, tell you why it doesn't work." I installed an external oil cooler in the coach when I replaced the engine. Because there was no way to get it into the airflow, I installed a cooling fan, and as I always do, polarized the spade connectors on the wires, and of course, bench-tested the fan. That old fan became erratic, so I installed a new one, with the bench test and polarized plugs. Energizing the circuit, I inserted the fuse, and it blew. "Dang," I thought, "tightened 'er up too much and the blades are stuck on the fins." Nope. Bad fuse? Blew another 15A on a fan that drew a measured 7.25A. Now I had been trying to beat the rain so I was in a rush; the threat of rain having passed, I crawled under again, and discovered that someone had blythely connected the two fan leads together. And of course, the same for the hot and ground wires... Keeping polarity straight gets kinda tough when you are lying down and reaching up while trying to see. I try to use color coding whenever possible. However, I don't really remember my excuse, but I did the same thing on my engine puller fan. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered | |||
