My VDO speedo reads 5 mph faster than we are actually traveling. The only reason I know this is because everytime we approach one of those "YOUR SPEED IS" signs our speed on the sign is exactly 5 mph less than what is on our speedo. Any idea what causes this or how to correct it?

Also, does this affect our odometer reading as well?

Is it electric or mechanical?

I used to get mechanical VDO speedos calibrated at a local speedo shop. Find a motorcycle enduro racer. He will know of a shop that does it.

We hav a electronic speedometer and there about 12 dip switches on back if you have a vdo gauge you can get the formula for correction from vdo on the internet.

The dip switches are easy to calibrate and should be in your Barth CD.

Here is the link to the writeup on that. VDO Dipswitch Calibration PDF

The improper reading are caused by a tire change, improper calibration when new or age related: as in, getting worn out.

It does change your actual mileage on the odometer.

hello . Our speedo was off by five percent.My mileage was reading 21 miles when we went 20.but my speedometer was not off very much at 60 mph it still showed very close to 60. By the watch it was less than 30 seconds off or close did reset the speedo. Now WE will check it out on the way to Hillsborugh. WE WILL CHECK IT AT 100 MILES.I guess we will not be getting on an a average of 12.1.also we do not tow yet. SEE YOU THERE
