Wonder if anyone can tell me where I can get a basement door latch for my 1990 Regency 32' Diesel. I had one that recently broke. I believe is is common for many Barth's as the photos may indicate. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Here is the front side. Also took photo of the key. The shank looks to be about 3 inches long and it is threaded. Another piece is attached with a nut on both sides making up the latch. I need both as they are broken off. It is entirely aluminum.

Thanks!
Jax

If you are saying that the pawl is broken, you will not be able to get that part from SouthCo.

The Pawls that come with the latches are very different that the one you have "pictured".

I am guessing that these were made by Barth.

I replaced all 18 latches on my Regency and only had one [starboard side, most forward latch for the generator compartment] that had a different latching mechanism on it.

It has a long, odd-shaped pawl similar to the one you have posted.

The *distance* to "latch" was too long for a stock pawl, so I think they made their own.

Did you keep your old latches you replaced? I am guessing they are like mine since we both have a 1990 Regency. I would like very much to purchase some of your old ones if they look like the one in the photo above. Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in responding. Work has been busy tonight!

The reason I changed-out my latches was because several of them were so worn-out, the cams on the key could no longer grip the worn-down cams within the lock/latch.

I actually tossed several of them; which had to be in 2006/2007.

Unfortunately, there were only a few that were good enough to salvage and I sold or donated them to another member.

The new latches have a shank which is larger than the originals, so the PAWLS will still be a problem in adapting to a new latch.

I don't believe I will find an original to replace the broken pawl or latch. I notice you have a 1991 Regency. The doors are probably simular to my 1990. The doors are about an inch thick from which the pawl extends from there about two inches and then the latch is a straight piece of aluminum held on by a nut on each side. Can you please tell me where you got your replacements and what the part number was? I am having trouble finding the right one. Thanks!

The best deal I was able to find was at Lowe's. The original on my coach were made by Southco who have priced themselves out of consideration.
Here is a link to the ones available at Lowe's which worked out fine for me.

Here are better pix of the 4th style latch, which uses the E3-5-15 key (Note that the lever is from the original latch):

I replaced the broken latch today. The new large washer was too thick, so if you have one of these latches to replace, save the large, original star washer.
