My euro has what looks like an aluminum extention or adapter that the oil filter connects to. It is leaking between the engine and the adapter. Does anyone know where to get a seal kit for this? The local Advanced store said it has to come from a performance house, but I couldn't find it in Summit.

If you can't find a seal, Permatex #2A or blue silicone would work. Also try the local Chebby truck dealer, as I suspect that extension is on there because of the chassis, not the coach itself.

I've been told it's to move the filter a bit further from the exhaust manifold Rusty, but I'll try a truck place and see what they say.

Is it a gasket or an O-Ring Danny? I suspect it's an O-Ring type of seal.

When we (Diesel Mechanics Who Know) seal oil lines fittings w/ O-Rings or flanged housings with O-Rings we use Air Conditioner O-Rings. They seem to work the best and doesn't blow out under a load. I get them from Napa.

You don't want to use a sealer if it's mounted with an O-ring. But as Bill N Y mentioned, if it is, NAPA could match it for size. An A/C or hydraulic supply place should be able to also.

Some P30 chassis had engine oil coolers mounted in one side tank of the radiator, with steel tubes connecting the side tank to a cast aluminum adapter that was mounted between the oil filter and the pad on the block. It used air conditioner type fittings on the ends of the tubes.

Yours might be one of those. I might recognize a picture. Does it look like it had lines connected to it at one time? Does your radiator have a trans cooler on one side and another cooler on the other side? Quite often, if the radiator is replaced, the new one has only a trans cooler in one tank and nothing in the other tank. That could have happened to yours.

I can't imagine why they would have just put in a spacer. The P30 chassis can accommodate a very long filter, even with an oil cooler adapter.

It all comes apart Saturday morning. We have the new seal kit from GM and will be doing an oil change-repair in one shot. I'll get some pix to show what I'm talking about in case anyone has the same problem.

Well we got the bracket off with no problems and got the new O-ring and gasket in. Filled her up with oil and started her up, and after a minute had about 3 quarts of brand new 10 w 30 on the driveway. Seems we broke an oil cooler line when we moved the bracket out of the way. It's a big thick braided line that just got so brittle it snapped right in half in our bare hands. So tommorrow I'll go the local hose fab shop and get a new one made up. The other one looks like it was replaced more recently so I'm just doing the one that broke.

Congratulations, Danny, on your good fortune. If that hose had failed on the road, you might have lost an engine. The factory installation uses steel lines, which are not subject to heat-induced deterioration. Flex lines need some heat shielding, like http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/14005/14005.html. I can't see your installation, but perhaps short metal pipe extensions in the area subject to manifold heat would help by moving the hoses forward, away from the heat.

Umm..........If that hose snapped in your hands, does that mean it did not have metal braid reinforcement? How about the one you're not replacing? Metal braid hose might be a good idea.

I put an external oil cooler on StaRV II - the about 8' of lines cost ~$110. They aren't braided (braiding does nothing to prevent internal deterioration), but they'll last...as bill h indicates, external sources of damage have to be kept at bay.
