DennisElectric Stairs Motor ~ Replace steps
I pulled the old electric steps off the 28 foot Barth today to trouble shoot them. The motor is frozen up so I'm looking for a complete new set of steps.. Any good ideas? I will stop at CW soon. Maybe someone on line has a better price.

RustyClick on the steps in the image above - there are several threads. The motor on most is a Ford window lift motor.
I've used
ppl motorhomes for several items, and been pleased.

Ed ChevalierI bought a 1990 Ford Victoria left front window lift motor (Part # 83094) from Advance Auto Parts. It was an easy swap. I did have to use the old gear. This was quite a big savings and it works great. I believe Bill H. was the first to do the motor swap.

I crossed that motor over to NAPA
- The new one has a lifetime warranty and is about $15 more than the rebuilt unit which has a 12 month warranty -

Jim and TereWhat did you end up doing? Jim ran the MH down the drive way & didn't know steps were out hit a log, ripped the step off.. we're trying to find a step with the scissor mechanism to attach to the upper base. if you replaced steps I'd be interested in acquiring them from you what's left. I have a friend looking for step too otherwise I'd offer my motor. IF you've gotten new steps i'm interested in the old.

DennisI went to the wrecking yard and found a replacement for my motor. This unit was out of an old Cad. The gear box was not the same so I swapped out the motor. I plugged it in to the control unit on the bench in the shop. It will run the motor but it doesn't stop turning. What limits the travel on the steps? Does the control unit limit the travel electronically or is there a limit switch controlled by the steps? The light comes on like it is suppose to.

The control senses the increase in current when the mechanism reaches its mechanical limits.
It is possible that the Cad motor does not draw enough current to activate the circuit, which is looking for a Ford motor.

DennisI installed the steps today and they work perfect. I'm glad I have Cad part in Barth.
