I recently bought a 93 30' Breakaway that the previous owner had changed the front rim & tire sizes. He claimed it improved the ride. The new tire size is 33x12.50R16.5 LT load range D. Has anyone heard of this conversion ? I am thinking of buying new tires & don't know if I should switch back to the orignal rim setup or stick with the current setup. What is the correct rim & tire size? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Darryl

Check on the Data Tag. There is often info on tire size, load and inflation.

I haven't seen a Breakaway yet that had a 16.5 tire. Perhaps you have a Regal?

Mostly they are 19.5 or 22.5 tire sizes.

Yes it is a Breakaway. As I said the previous owner changed the rims and tires to the current setup. the rears are still 19.5''. I will send you the info asap but the coach is in winter storage so it might be awhile before I get over to see it. Thanks

The 19.5x6 wheels seem to be standard on 28' and 30' Breakaways.

Where in the mitten (or the province of UP) are you Darryl and what beemer do you have?
Anyway, it goes without saying the stock wheels were 19.5X6 all the way around. Obviously, that was not your question. My gut tells me the handling characteristics could be squirrelly with such dramatically smaller diameter wheels in the front (only). Sometimes I see tractor trailers with low profile tires instead of duals. But, seems like they go all or nothing with the changeover. I would urge you to go 19.5 metric radials all the way around -- a better way to accomplish the goal of better ride and handling.
I'm thinking Goodyear G670 RV ULT 225/70R19.5 F (which will probably start an argument)

The hardest part of putting 19.5s back on is finding wheels.

But saying that, Pioneer wheel in Minneapolis had them in stock last year and I bought two of them. If you need the wheel mfger and part number I can get them for you.

What is the difference of the wheel?
So many MH owners (of SOB) have switched to metric radials, particularly tires designed for the application, rather than for delivery trucks. I had no idea all those MH owners would have had to change wheels.

If so, I have a personal story of running radials verus bias ply tires from the early days of truck radials around 1975.

I don't know how the PO could have put 16.5 tires on the front of a Breakaway, the disc brakes are rather large and I don't know about clearance. Further, most if not all Breakaways have a 6 bolt wheel and I didn't think they made that in a 16.5 diameter or if they did that would fit the Breakaway bolt and hubcentric pattern. Unless my Breakaway has a different (read larger brake) brake because I have a different front axle then most Breakaways. I could not fit 16.5 wheels.

Can you post a picture later of the wheel? Would be helpful to figure this all out.

the PO called it a re engineered front end. I dont know what that means. The front tires are about the same dia. as the rears because of the taller side walls. He said it rides much smother because they only require 55psi

We are from New Hudson (midway between Detroit & Lansing). The car is a 2001 325 cic convertable. Thanks for the info. on the tires. I think if the stock rims will still fit & I can find some, I might like to change it back. I plan on going to the GTG in June. maybe I can get some advice there .
