Shadowman stated a topic on GPS Speedometers in another post - I thought it was interesting enough to have its own thread so I place it in Tech Talk instead.

Moved Reply: On one of the busboards they are talking about speedometers, and there is a site called speedhut.com that has gps speedometers/odometers that you can customize to the way you want them to look. | |||

Does that stand for "Gallons Per Second" of fuel consumption? Actually, I went to their site and checked out some of their GPS Speedometer. Pretty neat really as it's what I'm already doing in my Commercial Conversion Barth. I'm using my GPS to tell me the MPH I'm traveling. So, if your speedometer is broken or you're looking for a really easy way to hook up a speedometer without setting dip switches, tracing out wires, running a new speedometer cable or have to change out the transmission speedometer drive gear. You might want to install a GPS Speedometer and you're done. No additional cables or wires required. Here is their blurb on these units. Here's one I played around with and added some text or you can upload a Logo instead. I've invited the manufacturer to comment on their products. I'll let you know if they have anything more to add to this discussion.

We have used our GPS to check the accuracy of the speedometers on our two old Volvos. It's a lot cheaper and easier than searching for new speedo gears in the transmission. Now, if they would only make a wireless device to give me transmission temperature and rpms, I would be all set. Humbo
