I am new owner of 1990 Barth Regency with 8.3 Cummins. Had the unit checked out by Cummins Service Center last week, and all was good. Brought it home and worked on clean up and make ready for road trip all weekend then parked in storage on Monday afternoon. This morning went to start and move and it would not start. Turn key on and I got the normal "buzz" and when I turned to the "start" position, nothing happened. I have check to make sure no kill switches turned off, tranny in neutral, parking brake activated, batteries charged, wiggled key, etc but still nothing. Suspect it might be the ignition switch gone bad but wonder if any other experience or suggestions. Thanks for help! Jerry ~ 1990 - 32' Regency with 8.3 Cummins on Spartan Chassis ~

Hi Jer and welcome to the board. Sorry you are having this little glitch with toyr new Barth. You should have an "AUX START" switch on the dash that when depressed will kick in your house batteries to help the coach batteries turn over the engine. Also look for a remote starter in the engine compartment, probably on the right side. BTW, do you have coach #139, because we have #140! Best of luck and hope you enjoy your new coach. Welcome Jerry, sorry to hear you're having a problem. Let's see what we can do for you. Use a test light and tell me if you're getting power to the "S" terminal when someone else tries to crank it. In this picture just follow the little wire up to the case of the starter motor solenoid. No power? Might be a bad solenoid then. Could you be stuck in gear? As a safety feature, it won't start while in gear. To do this properly I can call you and walk you through a few steps, you'll need a test light and another person helping you by turning the key when prompted. Shoot me a PM with your number or send me an email and I'll walk you through it. That image, posted above, is from coach #0139 Coach started right up when my test probe wiggled/moved the connection on the S wire lug end on the starter.

Failed to mention - I did try the "Aux Start" button on the dash - held it down and turned the key and same result. I believe the tranny is in neutral as the indicator says so but I also know to NOT believe everything you read! Unfortunately, I do not have a second set of hands available today to assist so I will try to secure assistance and follow these suggestions. Thank you so far for the good wishes and advice - as a side note, we are already knee deep in a "refresh" with all the furniture out and being re-upholstered and all new flooring starting today. Happy to share photos as we go. ~ 1990 - 32' Regency with 8.3 Cummins on Spartan Chassis ~

I was having the same problem. While checking it out I noticed between 4 and 5 volts between the chassis battery connection and the ground terminal for the coil. There should be no continuity at any resistance between these two terminals. I purchased a new 700 amp relay on Amazon and replaced the old one. When I took the old relay apart my suspicions were confirmed, there was significant carbon deposition under the cover and the contacts were severely burned and pitted. The system works like a charm now. Below is a picture of the disassembled bad relay. Could you post the part number and price? Did you replace it with a big boy relay?

I quess it's just as my granddaughter told me once that I have a bad "remembery". I thought I purchased a 700 Amp relay when in fact it was only 500 Amps. That is still enough for the task. Finally got some mobile service today to help solve the problem. Turned out to be loose/disconnected wire on back of ignition switch. Also discovered chassis batteries are nearly shot after testing so at least I know before I get out on my first trip.
