6/12 Formally known as "Humbojb" |
Thanks to ZIM and his abundant generosity, Tere and I are now a two Barth family. Our newest is a 1991 28' Breakaway, with the 5.9 Cummins bumped up to 190 HP. It is in a shop in Pennsylvania getting all the fluids changed, the oil pressure gauge repaired, and the Kohler propane generator fixed. I have so many questions that I will overwhelm this site for the next year. But first--What fluids should I use, i.e., What oil for the engine? What fluid for the transmission(4speed Allison) What fluid for the differential? What fluid for the water,i.e. any special type antifreeze What kind of brake fluid? It has the air over hydraulic system Lastly, the manager of the shop says the tires are dryrotted. I looked at them and did not see any cracks on the outside. Is there anybody that lives close to Allentown who could look at them for me? I should have paid a little more attention when I was there I have to tell the shop ASAP what to use so any advice would be appreciated.

Rusty, I found your comments on 'what to do-what to use' posted around 2006. Would those same comments apply now to the 5.9 Cummins in my 91 28' Breakaway?

Probably be the same: Rotella T 15W40 or Mobil Delvac 15W40 DOT 3 brake fluid Use Cummins-recommended coolant - it should get a special additive. Tranny: Allison-recommended Differential: NOT Amzoil. I'm using Valvoline synthetic 75W140. I'm sure folks with Cummins/Allison drivetrains will have suggestions. Glad you guys got this coach, and hope it all works out for you. I know how hard you both have worked,[well Tere anyway], on your present coach so I have a feeling this one will get the TLC it needs to regain it's former glory. Sure would like to see it at Hillsborough in December. 79 Barth Classic

Since it is "shorter" than the other one, you could use it as your toad.

Shouldn't that be "Hers" and Hers"? But wait, the son-in-law, aka jet pilot, aka father of the triplets, has cast a coveting eye on the Breakaway. Seems he thinks the triplets would fit just fine in the 'back-back' and he and mommy would fit just fine in the front. So maybe it will be called "The Trips" Jim

Short for 'triplets'. You can see what our world revolves around. But that's ok, because we only have them for awhile and they are a joy every day. Two things will happen: They will get older and have there own lives and families, and Tere and I will get older and eventually pass from this life. It's the way of things and that's ok, too. Jim
