I had to google Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD)to see what you were talking about. I assumed diesel was diesel. On the farm we had to run winter diesel when it got cold but that was a given. Seems like I have missed some changes. Both the 2 cycle and an injector cleaner supplement every fill first trip? I run Amsoil at 100/1 in all my 2 cycle except my outboard. That I run Cabela's Signature® Semi-Synthetic Two-Cycle Oil TC-W3. I like to use as few things as possible. The signature oil fit the bill? I appreciate the input.

Cheap 2-cycle oil is fine. Some people suggest ATF or spent motor oil instead; neither is a good idea (Actually, either is a BAD idea).

Depending how much the coach has been run recently (probably very little), it can't hurt to run cleaner.

Farm diesel may contain the old amounts of sulfur, which is an excellent lubricant, and why, since it's nearly gone, I add oil on each fillup.

Of course, you'll change the fluids (at least the engine oil) before heading home...

Good call Rusty! And more folks with older diesels (as in our Barth's) should be doing this. I read quite a bit about the new ULSD and you really need to add something to it to replace the missing lubricating that sulfer provided for the injectors. I also run 1/4 oz. per gallon, though there is reports that 1-2 oz. per gallon is advisable. No matter what your ratio is, you need to add lubrication. If you run bio-diesel, you already get it. But most of us just have ULSD available. Best bang for your buck, IMHO, Walmart Super Tech ashless TC-W3 2 cycle oil. Look for it in the blue gallon containers. Use up to 1 oz. per gallon.

I would love to use biodiesel. Would there be Issues with mixing and switching back and forth. I assume it is limited availability. Having farmed for 26 years just seems like a good idea. Being a manager now at Cabela's I will be using our Cabela's Signature® Semi-Synthetic Two-Cycle Oil TC-W3.
Oil change a definite do. Even though they have been running the Coach on a regular basis to visit the kids and funerals and those type trips to California.

Dana,
Others may be better versed in the bio-diesel fuel than I would be, as it is not available locally here. I have read some not so nice things about it though. The only positive I saw in regards to older diesel motors was the lubrication factor on injectors.
As far as using 2 cycle oil as an additive, just make sure it is ASHLESS, as you do not want any build up in your motor from using it. Seems that is one of the problems with the likes of ATF, used motor oil, Marvel Mystery Oil, standard two stroke oil and others like these. But, some folks will swear by these additives as they have been doing it for years with no problems.
I'm hoping Rusty will chime in on this issue just in case I'm misleading....

2-cycle oil is ashless, which is why it's the choice. ATF and motor oils aren't. Spent motor oil in the fuel is ridiculous; why put back into the engine contaminants that should be discarded? ULSD does have some lubricity added, but tests show not really enough, so a bit more is recommended.

Some Cummins engines have a feature that continually bleeds crankcase oil into the fuel; while contemporary diesel motor oils are very low ash, I still think giving contaminants a second chance makes no sense.

I'm not an authority on biodiesel, but the reports are that switching should be done gradually, and with a supply of fuel filters on hand. The best performance seems to come from consistently using blend of petroleum and bio.

Rusty,
Why anyone would use used contaminated anything as a cure or additive just boggles the mind. I'm all over using 2 cycle oil like white on rice. The former owner kept the Coach well maintained and i don't anticipate problems. I always plan for the worst and hope for the best. Batteris and Belts were just replaced oil will be changed tires in the works to be replaced. Major scrutiny on the hoses because he doesn't remember when they were replaced last. He does have every receipt on everything he ever did and being an old farm boy I know what to look for.

Yes, particularly when the heavy metals in spent motor oil are considered. I believe it is illegal in many places to burn spent motor oil as heating oil, which used to be pretty common.

Less than a week to roadtrip. Fly to Yuma spend a couple days going over all systems and then head home to Minnesnowta (have I mentioned I'm tired of snow)in a less than straight line. Yuma to Grand Canyon to Dallas(sister) then north home. I never would have believed it would be so much trouble to buy tires. 245/75R 22.5 they had one or none and couldn't find any of there suppliers who had them. I talked to one place who had 4 and could get there hands on 2 more. I had them check the manufacture date and it was march of 2007. 4 years old, 4 years old and full price?? But sir they have a full warranty!!! WOW, crazy!! Gary Carter and I were discussing closest size crossover to see what else I could put on and he was talking to Franklin Tire when 10 of the tire I needed 245/75R 22.5 popped up on inventory in their supplier in Phoenix. Well dang hook me up!!! BF Goodrich R250F They were sure not the cheapest but it was the only game in town!!
Have joined FMCA and Coachnet. Trying to finalize insurance today my day off. I'll elaborate more on the post on insurance we broke off of this one. Sent via the United States Post Office the books and manuals, cameras,Nuvi, leatherman, binoculars, extra cheaters, sunglasses, audio recorder all there already so we can travel light without checking any bags. What am I missing? Shout it out I want this trip to be fun for Lynn!! and me Tooling Along

Windshield wipers and water tank valves need attention.

Tires going on first thing tomorrow.

Should be heading to the Grand Canyon maybe tomorrow evening.
Tires would have been on the 30th. He had plans to visit for a few days and learn about his coach - then a bit of sightseeing. If you're reading this Dana - get pics of your Barth in a setting suitable for the 2012 Calendar. It's never too early to get a jump on next years sales pitch. Big Grin

First I have had internet. Got to take a ride with Coachnet on the back of a semi. Frowner Now waiting , still waiting. I am in a tow yard in Chino AZ.
Stopped at a light in Prescot and it shifted to neutral and then would not shift again.
The window had been left open and things were a bit of a mess. Arizona Dust! Was fixing putsty stuff this am in the tow yard. Never looked at the propane of coures it went empty overnight. When you can't drive and are at the mercy of someone else it %#*^%#@.

The factory papers I found list me as an Aristocrat not a Breakaway. I don't ever remember seeing anything anywhere about Aristocrat.

Pics this is a slow connection. I took pics of the paper but there are notes and other things that i want to cover because it is private info. When I get time I'll get it. I Believe it or not I have not taken any pics inside or out that don't have a story. I will take some but till get home nothing that will be Calendar worthy needs a bit of cleaning.
