My guess, 5 gallons. This would, in my case, fill up the complete system including the rear heat loop. But, I have the Ford whereas you have a GM powerplant.

You might have to "burp" her too. Diesels are worse though than gas about that. Carry a little extra with you on the first trip in case it gets low.

If it's more convenient, you can cold burp it. Fill the radiator up cold, let it sit, and check it again a few times, topping it off. BB Chevies have that bypass hose that helps this a lot. They will usually burp themselves. It could still need a top off after the first warm up, as Marvin says. Always good to check.

With a good cap, good coolant reservoir and good hoses connecting the radiator neck to the reservoir, the system will burp itself.

Have your cap tested. Not just the pressure seal that sits down in the filler neck, but both the suction seals. One in the middle of the cap, and one that seats on the outside of the radiator filler neck.

When the radiator is full and burped, put a little coolant in the reservoir.

After the engine has cooled down after a good hot run, the coolant level should be right at the bottom of the tube that goes from the neck to the reservoir. This shows that it is burping when it is hot and sucking when things cool down.
