Some of you may recall our discussion regarding my headlight switch getting hot and intermittently the hadlights would shut off. After replacing the switch it no longer gets hot and the lights seem to be fine. Until I flip on the roof mounted spot light..then the headlights shut off for a minute...Do you guys think it's too heavy a load or is this a function of using the spotlight? (i know, dumb question but i once saw an RV that can float)

I would suspect that your spotlight is too much of a load to add to the headlight circuit. Motor homes with all their extra lights already add a lot of extra load to the switch and its breaker. You could use an ammeter to measure th load and compare against the rating of the circuit breaker

I would use a fused Bosch relay. They carry 30 or 40 amps.

I have a 92 regency and the headlight switch need to be fiddled with or the running lights in the front and back do not turn on. I'm considering replacing the switch. Where did you get your new switch?

I had the same problems which is why i had the switch changed. I have a warranty on my Barth so a shop replaced the switch for me. The service guy said they removed the switch and gave it to a good auto parts store to match. I thought he said it was a GM product...

With a handle like "goodwinw" one would think Mr. GOODWRENCH would be a natural. I agree MOST GM parts are quality. I have found that there are too many REBUILD people putting out junk.

Dale, I was once pretty good with a wrench, but that was a long time ago. I am sure, however that with the new Barth I'm going to get a refresher course that should jog some of the old knowledge loose. By the way, once you get the headliner issue settled in your coach, share some of the important details with me. This may be something that I'll have a go at in the future.

When I replaced the headlight switch in my 1991 Barth I had to use the switch part number for a 1986 Ford F-350 truck. The part for the 87 to 93 F-350 would not fit.

Part number for the...
1986 switch DS219
1987 to 1993 switch DS268

"Standard" is the brand name for these switch part numbers.

When you take out the switch you will first need to turn on your headlights. There is a little metal button in the middle of the switch. Push this button and then pull the knob off. This will allow access to the nut so you can remove the switch.

Thanks to Bill for the info about the '91 using an '86 headlight switch...that saved me some time at the auto parts store. Do you happen to know what the red wire going to the "A" terminal is for? Ours is fried a little and is getting smoking hot.

I need some help identifying some of the wires in the bundle attached to the frame rail, most of which are rear light wires. But there are 2(red with white stripe and a yellow) which never make it all the way to the back end, they disappear behind the gas tank. The red with white is damaged(fried) up under the doghouse and I want to repair it but can't figure out what it for. As far as I can tell everything is working, but we do have that little problem with a red wire (no stripe) in the headlight switch burned off too. Not sure if there is a connection.
Any ideas or info would be a help. Thanks--Jacki
