Bill, we are leaving El Lay for the same reasons. Even though El Segundo is a great little town, we are surrounded by what you describe.

These are some of the very reasons we left California six years ago.

The area I live in now is slipping, slow but sure. One thing I will say, I'll NEVER live near a university ever again.

A common story in the paper these days is muggings and shootings. Most of the time the perps are from Chicago. They either go to school here, used to or were visiting friends.

Combine this with 10% unemployment, yeah we are heading out in 2 months. I won't miss the winter anyway.

I hate to hear that about Newburgh or any area. On our trips we have seen and been to many down on their luck places, i.e. Gary IN, East St. Louis, Memphis and West Memphis (do not stop there for fuel after dark, it's a zoo) and yes Florida too (South Bay anyone?). You cannot get away even in our little place, while we have no gangs per se, the meth problem is rampant and prescription drug abuse skyhigh. Try 20% unemployment one county over ... But compared to other places I guess it is better than any city. Country folks can survive Smiler Rather fight the rattlesnakes and the bears than the gangs.

We are heading to Lake Havasu City for the winter. Then off to Texas to some property we have there. Going to do some dirt bike riding at the foot of the Guadalupes.

Who says 2 ppl can't fulltime in a 25ft Barth?
