I am in a frenzy to get insurance coverage. My 30-yr plus home/auto insurance company (State Farm) has no record of 'Barth' in their database, and they keep telling me "yeah, it is a model 'Barth', but what is the MAKE of it."

I keep giving them the same answer. Check NADA for existence of barth. Call a large TV dealer. go to www.barthmobile.com.

I gave them all the info off the VID Plate.

It DOES EXIST! I am SITTING IN IT in Colorado, for heaven sake!

Have you considered another company, such as Progressive? I had a claim and feel very well-treated.

Mine is registered for DMV purposes as a Chevrolet. Previous owner had NC plates and that is how they did it and CA just re entered all the data.

Ditto on Progressive. Best price and no hassles on the RV coverage. They couldn't touch the rates on my other vehicles but would write a stand alone policy on the Barth at less than half what Allstate wanted.

Thumbs up on Progressive, here too... However, they were against giving us full coverage on a 1977, pushed "liability only" because of it's age. ??? On a side note... We get AT LEAST 5 pieces of mail a week from Camping World "insurance". It's getting annoying

I have and 73 and carry just liability, it is about $200.00 a year.

How much are you folks paying for full coverage?

As people that live in Los Angeles or did live here can tell you we pay a bit more to insure our cars and the like.

Thanks:

Timothy

After checking with all the major carriers, including my own, I went with Progressive. No claim history yet to know if it was the right choice, but Q&A service has been great...phones answered by live bodies, etc.

Like Timothy, I elected for liability only, as comp for a '78-24' wasn't cost-effective, and I'm not gambling with that much money anyway. I pay $150/yr in a metro area....The historic tags made no difference to them.

You folks in the sunbelt obviouly pay for year around because when we are holed up in our igloos you are out hitting the road. But I have had Westbend Mutual for years because they let me pay a year at a time...I like that...And, on the Barth I just have a "parked liability" for the winter, so if it burns up or if I have vandelism, like I did in January they pay but if I drive it and something happens I am out of luck. Just $75 for 6 months...

Then just 275 for full coverage the rest of the year....

THANK YOU!!!! for the heads up, he must have missed that part of the plan in agent class. He on the other hand never lets me forget and problem with appraisals I have done for him.

Anyone else care to tell about there RV coverage, prices and claims? I will be shopping for insurance in the next 2 months. I like something like what Dave has as it doesn't move in the cold months.

Hoping to save some cash so I can put it in the tank next year.

To carry it a step further, what we need is a policy that can be activated when we use the RV and put to sleep (or at least suspended animation) when it is parked.

Yes Bill, but here's the deal. How many of us have forgotten to wind down the antenna ro some other thing like that.

West Bend send me a thing to put on my steering wheel that said "Call to start coverage before driving" or something like that. I wanted to scan it but now I can't find it.

If you have an on and off, more than once a year thing, "YOU WILL FORGET" and then you'll be in deep poop. Well, I know I'll forget for sure...

Here is the current, but not perhaps the final info. I have a binder issued, but haven't rceived the ro-be mailed policy yet. The underwriters could still change their tune.

State Farm, my 30 year plus carrier, insured me for $600, Progressive wanted $2500 because of 2 apx. $1000 claims in the last 3 years.

When i talked to Progressive, they said they would never cancel one. At rates like that I can see why. I may go to progressive when my 3-year histpry clears, but not now!

As far as total loss, SF said that they would average the market price of 30 like-size, like-feature and like-quality to determine the replacement value. I told them they certainly not find 30 like-Barths, of any kind.

That is kind of scary, especially the like-quality item. Comments? Is this a normal approach for MH for total loss?

.....You're right to be concerned. If they were to go to the same model year and start comparing against the big "W", or anything that had Fleetwood as part of its name, you'd be a stuck-eee.

Is there anyway they would qualify their definition of like-quality? In the aircraft racket, its possible to negotiate alternative make/model/equip as the basis for like-quality. That prevents them from low-balling a replacement for a unique airplane.

With West Bend I had to determin the value of the coach, ($15K in my case) and I told them and they billed me for that replacement value.
