Hi everyone, we are looking into buying a 1979 mc24 fp3, 454. its via an auction in the UK so not much information, and yes it does need some work. However when looking at some of the splendid examples on this site i note when looking at the vin plate, it often does not show a GCWR figure, we call it gross train weight, the maximum laden weight of vehicle and the max laden trailer weight, My question does this mean they are not suitable for towing a trailer, we would really like to pull a trailer carrying our classic car to shows etc so not that often, the trailer and car would be maybe total 2700kgs. thank you.

Welcome to the site! We have information in our site archives you may find useful. Search the archives, don't hesitate to ask questions, we have several "experts" around. The 79-86 GM service manual is located here: http://barthmobile.com/groupee...ide_PG_1979-1986.pdf In a later edition GM included a towing weight chart that should apply. Attached, from the 1997 GM service guide... (Being the dimensionally challenged country we are, you will have to convert pounds (not money!) to kilograms....) Let us know how your purchase goes, we love to see projects!
