Just letting everyone know we are fine, including the Barthy. We learned that a 125 mph crosswind won't blow it over! We were about 25 miles south of the eye, which should have been the worst place to be, but we had no storm surge and not a lot of rain at our house. The wind was fierce for a few hours and we lost some branches and some fencing. Just to our south [only 5 miles or so], Manasota Key was obliterated. There are many videos of guys on quads going through the devastation on Facebook. Steve and Liz have travelled the key many times and know what the houses out there were like. Almost all are severely damaged and many are simply gone. A new pass opened on the south end of the key cutting off a large part of the State park. Steve said his place came through OK from what he hears, but his favorite beach is changed forever. Anyway, we're fine and all services are back in working order.

We were indeed lucky. Our park model was not damaged. We are about 8 miles inland from Port Charlotte. The eye was only about 40 miles away. Oakhaven had about 6 inches of heavy rain, then winds of 60-70mph, followed by no rain on the backside. Very little damage and no flooding in the park.

Typically the back side has onshore winds, heavy surge and lots of rain. We were very fortunate, as the back side seemed to fall apart as the storm passed. The storm passed through very quickly, another reason for less surge. Port Charlotte saw only 3-4ft surge and it was at low tide so very lucky again. Ft. Myers was largely spared. They were destroyed by Ian.

So glad Danny dodged the bullet also. The barrier islands will never be the same. Sad to see.

Liz and I are heading there tomorrow with my boat and stuff for the new park model. Nice and sunny! Cool Thumbs Up
