My local campground near the Mississippi river is 70% empty! This time of year, there is normally a waiting line with campers parked in the boat parking lot.

Guess 5-dollar gas has reduced RV usage. We have had some rain but also really nice days, so pretty sure it is the cost of fuel or covid. Anyone seeing similar??

Yes. There is a small township RV park on my lake. Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day are usually booked full.

This Memorial day weekend it was about 1/3 full, the least I have seen in many years. I think it is fuel prices....

Our plans have been crushed. Our adventure is to the "outer driveway". No black tank maintenance! Always a silver lining.

Our plans, too, have largely been placed on hold. Around here though, the local state parks, etc, seemed to be booked up. Seems like folks that normally would've been on the road are using our state parks instead. One of our camgrounds I like to go to, about 30 miles away, is pretty much booked completely on weekends through September-ish

We would love to come travel around Arkansas , but we just have too many things going on right now . Looking forward to getting back to camping soon .

On a personal note, we had to cancel our month of July trip to Michigan and Indiana. I said when gas hit $4.50 with no going down in sight we'll do something different. Near $5 now and rising, so we'll see if the Florida parks are available.

That is not good news was really excited to finally get to meet you guys and share Glasnose stories. So far still hope to be there myself but my trip is about only 250 miles of so, still $300+ of Petro round trip.

In September I paid $5.999 for diesel. Yesterday Diesel was $6.599 in National City, California. Not long ago the voting machines voted in a gas price increase.

On my way to Florida today I paid $4.79 in southern Georgia. I'm voting for that!

Has the price of fuel really risen? When I was a teenager back in the 50s, I made $.75/hr and gas was about $.20/gallon. So that means one hr work eq 4 gallon gas. Now min wage is $15/hr and gas is about $4/gal. Now one hour work buys 4 gallon gas.

then $.75/ hr gas $.20/gal .75/.20 = .375 gals/ hr
now $15./hr gas $4.00/gal 15.00/4.00 = .266 gals per hr
if you can get gas @ $4.00/gal

You need to recheck your math.

the early days were 3.75 gallons and today is 3.75 gallons and here in Yuma gas is under $4.

Gary and I seem to use the same method to arrive at "constant" dollars. MPG has certainly changed over time but I wonder if $/mile might be nearly constant?

The problem, is not the math but the wage, the average hourly wage in 55 was $2.50/h. Gas @ $.25/ gallon. In 2022 the average hourly wage was $11.02. So that would buy about 2.2 gallons of gas and that $2.50 in 1955 would buy about 10 gallons of gas. I did use $5 a gallon for 2022.
