Does anyone know if pictures exist showing the Barth under construction? I am interested in learning more about the framing, skin, and chassis. I will be looking at a 1992 28 Breakaway 4 sale, seems underpowered. do these coaches get blown around on the highway?

RustyWelcome to the Forums!
The '92 28' Breakaway would typically have the Cummins 5.9L TD rated at 160HP. Reports are this engine runs out of breath around 65 mph. Some of those engines can be uprated to 190HP. My '94 28', originally with the wretched GM 6.5L TD @190HP, would easily do 75 mph, and with its replacement AMG @230HP, does 85 mph (not that I run it at that speed).
While I'm obviously happy with my AMG, IMHO, the C5.9L @160HP wouldn't be a deal-killer - Fleetwood used the same mill in 34' Bounders...

Danny ZWelcome! We have quite a few Florida folks here, and we have an annual Get-together every December near Tampa. Here's a brochure that shows an under construction pic if you scroll down to page 9.

captgebThe aluminum framework for the house is very appealing. Seems crazy to have put a 160hp engine in the coach though. Thanks!

Jim and TereYou might want to look at my 28' Breakaway. At 190HP, it does just fine with or without a toad. For sale right now and I've never seen another Breakaway in as good condition. I'm just up the road in TN.

carlflackMy recent coach was a 30' 92 BreakAway with a 160 HP engine. In my travels I did not have any problems doing 60/65 MPH. I can tell you I wasn't the fastest guy out of the gate but I got there. At my age (86) I try to smell the Roses and I beleive" Slow Is Better", A good BreakAway is very satisfying.............................

Jim, just wondering why you are selling the 93 Breakaway over your 85 Regal? Just curious. If I could sell our 90 Regal I be interested in your Breakaway. I love the layout.

john canningAlso have a 9 Breakaway with the 190hp and at times pull a heavy 20ft enclosed trailer set up to haul a dune buggy and a small car. Gets near to 10 mpg and while not fast can cruise at 60. Just use my road time to relax and let them go by. Have found that being old has some advantages like my "giv a chitter" no longer is functional. If I was traveling on a schedule it would be very under powered.
