Originally known as the Weimer Pointer (derived from the court that sponsored the breed), the Weimaraner is a product of selective German breeding and comes from the same general stock as other German hunting breeds. It is believed to be a descendant of the Bloodhound and was originally used to hunt wolves, deer and bear. Over the years because of the rarity of bigger game in his surroundings, the Weimaraner adapted to become a bird dog and personal hunting companion.

Per AKC

Often referred to as the "grey ghost" because of the distinctive color of its short, sleek coat, the Weimaraner is a graceful dog with aristocratic features. Bred for speed, good scenting ability, courage and intelligence, he remains an excellent game hunter and active participant in other dog sports.

•The Weimeraner is not happy when relegated to a kennel. He is accustomed to being a member of the family and accepts the responsibilities which that entails.

SOB... Now that's funny Kevin. As far as making it anywhere it is contingent on my son. I am a single father. I adopted my wife's son after she passed away he is almost 18 and ready to graduate. July is my target date but I will see if I can carve out some time as it sounds like a blast.

Cheers

I did not appreciate the SOB dog breed remark.

I did Smiler. Of course, to C & N, any non-Goldang Retreater is SOB. But they could care less; they're willing to play with anyone.

Isn't every male dog the 'son' of a bitch?

Even when we refer to S ome O ther B rand
of motorhome doesn't mean that we do not recognize the qualities they might have, ie. Wonderlodge, Beaver, Airstream...

Can't stay out of exchange any longer.
We had a Newfoundland dog from the time he was about 12 weeks old until he passed away on the farm. I had exposure to weims when I was in college and my major prof would bring his to class occasionally. Due to several circumstances not all of which were positive I was interfacing with the local humane society and expressed an interest in either another newfie or a weim. I got a call that they had received a weim with the normal explanation of too much dog for too little home.
Interesting findings from this animal about the breed. Given this is one in a row data it is never the less data.
Normally their tails are docked, my dog had a full length tail. I think the docking had gone on for enough generations that little connection to the cns remained. The dogs tail banged anything and everything with complete abandon to the point blood would be spread throughout the pathway as Blue (named by previous owner)would happily wag his way down whatever path he chose. Quite a change from the newf that we had as an indoor dog when in town. That dog would enter a room wagging his tail and as he passed furniture or end tables with fragile items his tail would cease left/right swinging and change to left/center/left or other appropriate movement to avoid contact while passing items.
One of the traits that is hyped about these dogs is the ability to be both a family dog and a good hunter. Blue was a natural, he would go on point and hold the quarry. Problem was he could not tell field mice dens from quail and thought you were a failure if you did not flush anything he pointed. Three frozen point field mouse nests in a row does not give pause to a dog that points the same type terrain, lets you get the pee scared out of you when a covey of quail jumps up. His look of consternation nearly resulted in an hunting accident. Sorry Blue it just went off, must have been the surprise of a justified point.
Blue was never accused of being a dumb dog nor an unfriendly dog. He liked trucks just like the old Nissan commercial stated, he liked playing but you knew when it was game over because you had just thrown the ball, frisbee etc. and he gave you that: "It's your turn I got the last one!" look, sat down and watched to see what would happen next.
Many more stories but net is they do not have enough blood to service their brain and a full length tail

This, the tail wagger with intellect, was not the W it was the Newfie. The W was possibly the smartest, most devious, least aggressive animal I have ever had the experience of sharing time. He was a reasonable chick magnet after he was neutered, seemed to increase his ability to focus. More stories abound.

Sounds familiar for sure. Very active pup, very curious but clumsy. Separation anxiety and such. Younger he played ball all day, in the water in the sand on the grass in the house. Didn't matter. It was always time for ball. As time settled in the hips started to get weak and it got down to one throw. And he would sit there and chew it but not bring it back.

Now he sits in the yard catches the ball then the Laberdoodle (my sons dog)mugs him for the ball and brings it back. Everyone is happy now.
