A nice morning today, I met with Rusty at the nearby mooring in St. Charles, MO. A nice opportunity for a long time visitor to the sight. I met both goldies and got a great tour of Rusty's coach. This is only the second "onsight tour" I have had, the first being an FMC just south of Circleville, Ohio (I was on long time assignment there) in the winter of 2002 which led to my following of this group. I still have not committed to 10 mpg at highway speeds versus 1 mpg at 10 mph at river speeds but the "TIMTATION" remains. Thanks Rusty and have a nice trip. If anyone gets near St. Chuck let me know and I will try to offer any hospitality I can. Tim | ||

I certainly enjoyed meeting Tim! I got in to my sister's without incident, staying ahead of freezing rain. Of course, once here, the ignitor board for the furnace crapped out, and it was 0F last night, winds 20-25, gusts to 30. Actually, the thermostat contacs need cleaning before I could diagnose the DSI problem. Anyway with two space heaters (one borrowed from my sister because one of mine died) and the A/C heat strip, and with part of the coach closed off, temp stayed at 60F or above. I got a new space heater which blows more volume, and it's made an improvement. The biggest problem has been the wind, which is blowing in through the door and window seals, but its going to back tonight to straight nose-on, and they will be an improvement. Glad to hear you made it safe Rusty, was worried, took my wife 26 hours to get from San Jose to Las Vegas via the airlines, weather has been crappy all over the western US! It's headin' your way! The local (8 miles away) RV dealer (Boyd's Happy Campers off I-35 in Holt MO - highly recommended) had the part, so the furnace is up and running. Cold air was seeping under the blackout curtains (which make great insulators), so the duct tape solved that. Naturally, I left the outside cover off while testing. The furnace was blowing cold air even though the burner was lighted. (Maybe because with the cover open, it was recirculating outside air?) Rusty, glad to see you made it. I, too, was worried for you. Keep warm, even if it means abandoning the Barth. You're far more important than it is. Jim

Thanks - even with the temp at -5F and 20 mph winds, the inside never got below 60F - not "toasty", but not unpleasant.
