Wally,

Think twice before crossing what border? Into Canada? Surely there must be reciprocity/

Wally, I understand your frustration. Every place has their rules to give the politicians something to tout how they helped mankind keep from hurting itself.

I believe that while your jurisdiction can impose these rules on you, they don't apply to citizens with valid licenses from jurisdictions that do not have these requirements. The exception is when the rules are clearly posted on entering a jurisdiction (like speed limits, no cell phones, insurance required, etc.) Otherwise no one would dare leave their own state or province.

So, if I drove into Canada, I believe their is nothing they can do about the fact that Florida has no such requirement (unless posted as stated before).

To be honest, I have no great desire to visit Canada again with my RV as some of the worst campground experiences I've had were in Canada (all east coast). Perhaps it was due to my New Hampshire plate in French Canada confusion but, throughout the week we were shocked at the rudeness, bad water/electric, lack of care of the facilities, and even theft at one campground. I would have thought the west coast better, but after last year's Stanley Cup riots in Vancouver, I'm not so sure.

I'll stick to the lower 48 for now, but am open to suggestions. I have been all over Canada on business with nothing but good experiences, but campers seem to be viewed with disdain.

The Full Faith and Credit clause applies to all states, but do not apply to foreign jurisdictions. Just as you must comply with foreign licensing, road rules, insurance or, in some cases, have an international license; when in Canada, or Mexico, you have to meet their laws. The operative words were, "if you are in an accident" then they can and will apply their laws. In most cases you would never see any difference.

Well then, I have a good excuse to not cross the line. They may not appreciate my "vehicle security systems" either. Built by Ruger.

Campingwise we had good experiences in BC, Alberta and the Yukon, nice Provincial Parks, great places. Not so pleasant was a Canadien Borderguard that gave us a hard time (he could not find a gun). Liard Hot Springs is still one of my favorite memories.

Wally.
Are you talking about the air brake test?
Is the a test for gas motorhomes entering Canada?

He is talking air brakes, with a gasser you just have to get the rules on towing.

Our drivers license are good in Canada, as long as our equipment meets their requirements all is good. Just as we accept their licenses.

Keep in mind the towed vehicle breaking became an issue in BC. Before that we never thought of having brakes in the toad.

I have been in all provinces of Canada, plus one territory and have had no problems with campgrounds. This might be due to the fact that I am a Yankee and our campgrounds are really only open from May thru Sept. Canada is much the same way. The only real difference is that 50 amp service rare in Canada, as it is in MN at smaller campgrounds. So if you are looking at Outdoor Resorts type of campground you will probably not find it.

Steve VW send me an email at tomloughney@gmail.com so I can keep you informed, I lived in Midland on and off for 30 years, went camping a lot, never without either rain, deer flies, or frost sort of a normal Mich summer.

I was looking at being able to store the rig not too far from an airport. My Aunt lives in Palm Coast, could be some storage there. I found covered for $80/mo with elect hook up near Orlando. I was paying $40 in Lake Havasau, $60 in Mesa, so it keeps going up.

Moonbeam send me an email I will keep you informed, my email is tomloughney@gmail.com I never turn down free parking.....

Dustyjeeper I have been using facebook for lots of postings, I wonder if we should start a Barth facebook page.

Bill H a facebook page could be another communication tool for us. It is easier to post pictures, but NOT as organized as this site, Here I can search for info easy, not so on facebook, but facebook is easy to chat and post.

If the batteries are ok I am planning to replace the shocks before I start out and a high velocity fan on the auto aircon condenser. It works good until about 90 then can't get the heat away, located at the back of the bus, where all the hot air from the engine comes out. I may relocate it to the front of the engine radiator.
