Hi all, I have recently found a Barth 1973 19' motorhome for sale. It seems to be in excellent condition, but I have not been inside yet. The owners are looking for $10,000 (Canadian). But from what I have read on some forums already this seems a little high. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. CoryG

Hi Cory, The beauty of a free marketplace is that something is worth exactly what a willing seller and willing buyer agree to...Only YOU can determine if it is a good price or not. Having said that, a couple observations: 1. If I did the math right, we're talking close to $9100.00 American, and: 2) A few years ago I kicked tires or seriously inquired about 8 different Barth units ranging from 1973-1979 and 21'-25'. Some were in great shape - some were terminal. ALL of them were available at 60-80% of the price of the unit you're currently looking at. 'Course, this one could be an ElPrimo find too.....and it has been 3 years since I was in the shopping mode....Things change, and like they say: Your mileage may vary....Good Luck!

Hi Cory. I agree with Lee about the value of a 70s Barth. I have a 79 21' with rebuilt engine, new roof, ceiling, bath, upholstry, furnace etc. that I will be selling for $6,000 between now and the end of the summer. Good luc on yhour search. joe

Cory, Also, you can import a 70s-80s Barth from the US to Canada no problem/no duty. They are considered an antique by Canada Customs!! I've seen Barths priced way over US averages several times in Canadian ads. Seen the 91 Breakaway in BC for $50 grand? Good grief, give your head a shake and move on from that one. have fun! Hi Everyone, I'd just like to thank everyone for there help. I was mistaken however. It is a 22' Barth not 19'. (There is a 22 by the door). Most of the interior looks original, walls, cabinets. (At least according to the pictures I have seen). Upholstery has been changed. Mileage has rolled over, but the engine has been redone in the last 10 years. Generator still runs great, and exterior is in pristine condition. Any comments or advice? Thanks. CoryG

Cory, I've already stuck my two cents in here, but here's MY bottom line: 1. You now know the chassis & coach have been exposed to over 100k miles and 33 years. 2. You know that "at some point", engine condition dictated that it be "redone"...don't know what "redone" means, why or when...For me, that would raise my suspicion-level more than it would raise my comfort-level. The fact that an engine has been "redone" within the past decade says little as value-added, and may even be a liability....... 3. Unless it was in an off-the-assembly-line condition, a price of over $9k would influence me to: A)agressively negotiate and/or B)keep looking...... Shop with the heart, but lead with the head (More of my Dad's stupid advice when I was shopping for my first car 45 years ago!)
