Very interesting.

Although I don't think these guys thought this through, it is way too easy to be on the road and have guns in your RV when you enter restricted areas. Even here in the US - NY and Mass come to mind.

On the other hand, having crossed the Canadian border many, many times, they have made it a norm to lie as they are perceived as looking for ways to fleece visitors.

I have been many times up to visit the Canadian Special Forces and if I declared I was bringing in samples to show them, the border patrol want's me to take an hour or so and declare them, pay for them in case I leave them behind in Canada, then make sure I follow up on the paperwork in one year or incur further fines. Of coarse, I can find an "Agent", who are lined up along the border, to charge me even more to handle all this.

It's so much easier to say "no sir, I'm bringing nothing in".

This is very interesting as I know of one couple that was traveling to Alaska with a rifle & a shotgun in their closet.
When they were asked by the Canadian customs officer if they had firearms they said yes.
The officer asked to see the firearms and after looking at them advised them the firearms were not allowed outside of the motorhome while traveling thru Canada.
I think Canada will not allow hand guns but will allow hunting rifles and shotguns.
This was about four years ago so I don't know if they have changed the rules.
