Just thought you might like to have one more explanation of why some vehicles can have two VIN's. We manufacture Cobra Replica cars and sell the majority in kit form. We are required by many states to distinguish vehicles that have chassis assemblies delivered separately from the body to have a permanent VIN plate attached and later (sometimes years) when the body is purchased to have one permanently attached also. When we build the entire car and deliver the vehicle with its Manufacturers Certificate of Origin we only need one. I suspect that because the chassis on our Barth was made by Gillig they had to affix a permanent ID to the chassis and Barth added the Data Tag and its own VIN when the coach part was built before it could be titled. Some of our customers have to present both VIN's for an original title to their DMV. The exception we use is if we can be certain the chassis is the same one we made then we issue the VIN for the body using the same VIN. We are required to maintain permanent records on every VIN forever, even going back to 1972. So we also have our own little Data Tag project. Oh the cars are at www.everett-morrison.com 1993 32' Regency Wide Body, 4 speed Allison Trans, Front Entry door, Diamond Plate aluminum roof & 1981 Euro 22' w Chevy 350 engine and TH 400 tranny | ||
