What the hey?

Jim and TereWhat the hey?
In an effort to try and find a replacement for the Kwikee step that I managed to rip off the Barth, I called Kwikee and they said I could buy a new step frame and use the old motor and control unit etc. About $160. They told me Camping World was their distributor. Called Camping World, the parts manager, who told me that Kwikee was in bankruptcy, wasn't making any parts, was being taken over by Stomberg Carlson, and that none of the Kwikee part numbers cross referenced.
Problem is, none of it was true. Kwikee is not going bankrupt, although they have consolidated some operations. They are not being taken over by Stromberg Carlson. In fact, Stromberg Carlson is one of their competitors. And Kwikee has 7 Series 28 step frames in stock. It seems that Camping World now sells Stromberg Carlson, using, shall we say, somewhat unscrupulous tactics. Kwikee Corporate is in the process of contacting Camping World Corporate. I wonder why these people think they can get away with this sort of thing?

Gunner "Stromberg Carlson" Last I heard of these guys was ca1952 when they made (huge, wood cabinet, console model) television sets. Now they are making electric steps for RVs? I guess diversification truly is the secret to survival in today's business climate.

bill hCamping World has been a source of incorrect information for several years now, but this is sinking to an even lower level. It seems that all their competent help has left.

bill hJim, is your step repairable? I have had my own travails with steps hitting things, and kibitzed on a few other repairs, and usually a clever man with a hammer and an anvil can make things right, again. Somewhere here, I have posted the pn for the bolts to replace the rivets.
Does your community have a blacksmith?
BTW, if you don't have an anvil, a foot-long section of railroad track works pretty well.

The previous owner removed them after an unfortunate incident. He parked next to the curb in front of his house. On re-entering the coach, he opened the door, and the step lowered itself on his foot, causing so much pain that he swore an oath to remove it as soon as his foot healed.
Maybe he remembers where he threw it.

rp's barthI just left a RV dealership where i worked in service and that was the norm @ our parts counter. If the guy doesn't know or don't want to bother, the part is no longer made. Have a new job now.

Jim and TereBill, I'm sort of like the guy that crushed his foot After I got the thing off the base, I did a mighty discus throw that eventually found the crunched step in the land fill. Then, my jet pilot, certified airplane mechanic, son-in-law, said he could fix it for me. Dumpster dipping isn't too bad if you're really hungry, but those old land fills are really dangerous(large rats and things).

No idea. I was just thinking why yours would have no step, and that popped into my mind.

Mary RaySounded good to me too. Oh, by the way, can you rebuild a no longer available control board for a generac generator?

Before my employer switched to all Hondas, we had Generacs, among others. The Generacs were most unsatisfactory, as they were noisy, unreliable, and poorly-supported by the factory, both parts and information. Our plant maint people were pretty good at cannibalizing and improvising, but they still couldn't keep the Generacs going. Some of the boards had unmarked parts or numbers that defied identification. And, of course, no wiring prints were available for the board internals. I will ask this weekend if there are any boards still around. Then, I will need to know what model gen you are talking about and any numbers or even a picture of the board.
Out gen people didn't like them at all, and were reluctant to put much effort into them, as they would soon fail again, whether fixed with a factory part or a bodge dodge.
