Would like to go down to Huntsville this week for a few days. We dont care how much it costs, but want a nice campground. Criteria--clean restrooms, dog friendly, wifi, cable, pool, within reasonable distance to Huntsville(we'll have a car) Any recommendations?thanks

I have stayed at the RV park on the Redstone Arsenal installation at Huntsville. Very nice place with all you mentioned. However, you do need a military ID of some sort to get on to Redstone. I am retired military.... not sure if you have an ID. Huntsville is a very nice area.

Jim and TereI'm retired military, USAR, but don't have a military ID card. I do have the papers though. Do you think I could get in?

RustyI doubt it. If you are retired, you should be able to get an ID at any nearby base. If you aren't drawing a pension or disability, you wouldn't be eligible.
Odd that the Army didn't give you an ID to age 60 then require you to exchange it for a retired.

Fred & CindyRusty is right. Need to have a retired ID card to get on. If you have the paper work showing you did retire, you can have an ID card made on Redstone Arsenal.... just make an appointment. We have been there several times on temporary duty (TDY) for my job and we like the area very much.

tom taylorThe national number for ID cards is 800-538-9552. They will be able to direct you to the nearest location where DEERS (HR records system access) and ID cards can be issued to you and your wife. If you are over 60, as Rusty indicated, you have lots of benefits. Tricare Standard up to age 65 and Tricare for Life is free and is a Medicare supplement. There is Tricare Dental, the commissaries, travel offices, etc etc. to obtain ID cards, you will need two forms of identification. If your wife is not in the system, she will need to bring marriage license, birth certificate, social security card etc.

tom taylorI might add for any going north or south on I95, the Mayport Naval Station in Mayport Florida which is next to the Jacksonville beaches in FL has an excellent RV facility. It is situated at the mouth of the Saint Johns River so you can see all of the river traffic. There is a nice beach which is also restricted to those who have access to the base.
The rules have recently changed in that you no longer need a DOD sticker on your windshield to access the bases. Just your ID cards.
