Has anyone had any experience, good or bad with the diesel powered Barths ?
Thanks for your input.

Welcome to the forums!

Can you be more specific? Barths have had GM 6.2L NA, 6.5L TD, and 8.2L TD; Cat 3116, 3126, and 3208 (250 & 300HP), and Cummins 5.9L (160, 190, 215, and 230HP) and 8.3L (225HP, 250HP, and up).

What are your concerns? There's plenty of experience here to answer almost any area of your interest.

MilSpec AMG 6.5L TD 230HP; built-to-order by Peninsular Engines: Hi-pop injectors, gear-driven camshaft, non-waste-gated, high-output turbo, 18:1 pistons. Fuel economy increased by 15-20%, power, WOW!"StaRV II"

In either case the idea is quite staggering.

Jd, you're really opening up a can of worms. There are numerous diesel Barths represented here, as noted above. My breakaway has its third Cummins 5.9 due to a couple unfortunate circumstances the (only) former owner had. I recently had a #11 cam plate installed on my P7100 injection pump. So, I probably went from 190hp to 210-215 or so.
I am convinced that what is more important than the hp of a 6BTA5.9 is the transmission behind it. In this regard, there was a significant change around 1993 when the Allison trans used began having five speeds or six speeds. With a four speed Allison 545R, I cannot get the fuel economy or the top end the later models can get.
