A couple of people have mentioned that quality of construction might not be relevant to cost of ownership.

My experience with RVs since the '60s has been that better built RVs require less maintenance. One of the reasons I bought a Barth was that I was tired of stick and staple RVs leaking, rotting and coming unstapled (or staples rotting away). Metal skin coming loose at the edges, fiberglass blistering, doors not fitting any more. On and on and on. I even had one RV that required a prop stick under the roof air unit when driving over bumpy roads to prevent the wobbly roof from collapsing.

Many of the repairs I had to do with stick and staple RVs would be budget breakers if I had to pay a shop.

I must strongly affirm that quality of construction saves a lot of money over the long term. I have been on both sides of that.

That was a popular conversion. We had one in our town. The guy had it for year and years and loved it. The Toronado drivetrain proved itself in GM, Cortez and Revcon RVs.

From my observations, cheapest to own is a travel trailer.

I agree with Stinky Daddy. After original purchase price there is little upkeep on a trailer. Most money spent on mine has been window dressing to make it look nice, paint, curtains, accessories and such.

I also have been lucky on my motorhome that I have had for about 7 years.

I am big fan of AIRSTREAM and AVION travel trailers. have owned one of each. No travel trailer answers the question.

Yeah, I've often been tempted to buy a Duramax and and Airstream. If it was legal to ride in a trailer while it was being pulled, I might have just done it.
