Gas availability
With horror stories about long gas lines making the news lately, I'd like to have some real info about gas availability for the Dega trip. Our normal route is 75 up to Tifton, then 520 through Columbus into Alabama all the way to Sylicagua, North to Dega, then 20 to Atlanta and 75 home. If the I-20 I-75 corridor will be short on gas, we can go back the way we came, but it's a pretty good chunk longer than the interstate timewise. My comfort level is about 450 miles, stretching it to 500 based on 8 mpg with 2-35 gallon tanks.

Danny, we came through Atlanta Monday and gas seem to be available at all the stations. Unleaded between 3.59 and 3.99 ( big spread). But over in Augusta most stations are out of gas. they get small deliveries and are open for only a few hours and then they are out again. It is strange. one station will have gas and the next three won't and back and forth. I would just keep the tank half full at all times and make the trip. Good Luck.

I use www.atlantagasprices.com to check gas prices and availability now.

The 'parent' website is www.gasbuddy.com and that'll get to any location that has the pricing available, most large cities and all states (I think)

Danny:

I drove back from North Georgia on Monday. 85 to 75 straight through to LaBelle. Didn't have any problem at the big stations (Flying J.)Gas was OK and lots of big rigs at the D. pumps.

You folks have a great Time and say hi to Junior for me.

Hi Danny,

I've haven't posted much lately as I have been quite busy and have the Euro up on blocks temporarily. Do you normally get 8 mpg with your Euro? The best I can get is 7 mpg and that is driving on a flat road at a snails pace. Have you done anything special to be getting 8 mpg?

Hey Barry, good to hear from you. Since my spedo-odometer has actually never worked since I got the Euro, I base my milage on mile-marker I-75 signs. I believe they are very accurate. If I keep up with the fastest traffic I only get about 7, but right laning with Publix or Wall-Mart Boys gets us about 8-9. Nothing special done, just good plugs and wires, new filters, and oil changed every year before the Dega trip. Tires at 65 lb. Just stuff that should be done.

Danny,
When are you getting to Dega? We will be at the gates to West Park A at 7:00 am Tuesday morning.

Gas in Atlanta and the Augusta areas is spotty. The issue is the special blend of fuel required by the EPA. That requirement has been lifted; normal supply is expected in a week.
