Must be a kickback involved somewhere. I endorse Rusty's suggestion of 2 cycle oil. Two cycle oil was also endorsed by my Long time friend VW diesel mechanic. The VW mechanic recently purchased a diesel and drove it home about 1000 miles. It had been setting a while. Before the trip he added a quart of two cycle oil when he filled the tank with diesel. One other one I endorse is Stanodyne. I presently have five diesel engines. There is also another additive that works well with biodiesel and biofuel. I cannot pull the name out of my library right now.

After having to hire a mobile "fuel polishing" service, I always add an ounce or so of antimicrobial additive when I refuel.

I add the Diesel Kleen occasionally along with the 2-cycle oil.
