I am now under a month until I get my Barth. Doing some planning and it will have some cold weather involved. Anybody have experience with the cold weather living?

I am thinking about comfort, heating, electric heat vs propane. Also about starting the rig and ice in the air system, brakes, etc.

Do these units have a preheat option on the engine, or does the heating system keep the engine warm? I don't have any idea yet.

I am planing on the Grand Canyon for Xmas and Las Vegas for New Years, the weather is below freezing at night for sure.

Or should I just go south......

But remember I live in the Tropics and the cold is a welcome change, weird isn't it!

I would like to do some early season skiing in New Mexico or Arizona if anyone has any recommendations for early December or early Jan.

Tom

There should be a block heater to warm the engine before starting. Most glow plug equipped diesels aren't too bad about starting cold.

I've had mine down to -5°F at my sister's; I run the heat strips in the A/C and a small space heater - or two compact space heaters without the A/C's strips - the A/C fan is noisy - with the furnace set to come on if those two can't hack it. I also have upholstery vinyl blackout curtains for star parties - I had them up for additional insulation. The only issue I had was when I got ready to leave. I had reflective blankets on the front windows; it never got above freezing for a week, so it took me half an hour to get the ice off the inside of those windows. This year if the weather's that bad, I'll take the coverings off the front windows the night before.

I have no experience with air brakes, but I do know they have to be kept dry. Bill N Y is likely familiar with preventive measures to prevent ice in the lines.
