I read an article where they glued boat planking together at the edges only with 5200, and the wood failed before the glue let go.

Another article did a sail repair with it, and the sail failed before the 5200 did.

In my shop, anything in a container that is subject to skinning or the like gets marbles dumped in until the level is up to the lid. No room for air, then.

I'm an old wooden boat nut (both old, and nutty about old wooden boats). I've used 3M 5200 in copious quantities, and I know that if you stick two pieces of wood together with it, and try to take 'em apart after it sets, the wood fibers fail before the glue does. I have no experience using it to fasten bare metal to a painted surface, as would be the case attaching the logo..

Another alternative for the Barth emblem is a double-faced tape made to attach automotive trim. I bought some from J.C. Whitney awhile back, used it on two jobs, and as far as I know the stuff is still sticking (cars have been sold).

A mechanical connection (rivets) is most certain, though I've replaced about 50 rivets on the Barth, around the front cap and other places where they're riveted into steel framing.

I've concluded it's galvanic corrosion. They rot off where they enter the steel, and pop out. I the drill out the remainder, and replace with another aluminum rivet. I don't plan to move heaven and earth to prevent further corrosion. What was good enough for the manufacturer is good enough for me, and the new riverts will last longer than I do.

I have been using 3M VHB (very high bond) double side tape for lots of differents application in industry with very good result. This stuff is tought and resist vibration, temperature variation, UV, etc. It's used in industry in all sort of application (architectural, transports, electronics, etc). Thicker tape (0.060'') conform to lots of shape. Look at their site.

I buy it from McMaster Carr.

Wondering if the Barth logo (repo) is still available for purchase. Noticed that all activity was in 2004, and I couldn't find the company that made it. (Onlinemetalgraphics.net)doesn't come up anywhere. Does anyone have current info?
Thanks,
Don and Susan Lucas
